Ontario that is.
Also known as "The Forest City".
With a name like that you'd expect lumberjacks, deer and fire to be spilling out, not musicians.
There are axes, just not the tree cuttin' kind... and instead of lumberjacks there's just a shit ton 'n' a half of boner-fied bands with serious talent handling them.

Their sixth album and first with Epitaph,Metropole, captures “that alone-in-a-crowd, stranger-in-a-strange-land kind of shit—a feeling of such weird solitude that you don’t even know what’s up and what’s down ‘cause you’re so caught in the wake of the city," according to Kelly.

Brain Holiday
out Oct. 22 on FatCat / Palmist
ALBUM STREAM: Dead Gaze - Brain Holiday -

Brain Holiday is the debut album proper from Dead Gaze, following on from the acclaimed self-titled compilation released by FatCat imprint Palmist in March. Brain Holiday is a confident and ambitious album, which places Cole Furlow's songwriting ability front and center; the move from recording in his bedroom to the famous Sweet Tea studio in Oxford, Mississippi allowing a talented composer of pop songs to emerge from the fuzz that characterized his earlier recordings. The time at Sweet Tea, which has played host to bands such as Animal Collective, Modest Mouse, The Walkmen, and Elvis Costello, came about by chance when a friend of Cole's who worked at the studio was offered 11 days of free studio time and immediately thought of Dead Gaze. As Furlow explains, the studio is a "huge million dollar studio with an amazing old Neve console," and he was excited at the opportunity recording at such a place presented to him; "I wanted everything to kinda be perfect. In my head I was thinking there is no way in the world I will touch another studio like this ever again, so fuck it - let's make an enormous pop record."

The Mad Caddies in Canada!

The Mad Caddies’ talents reach far beyond the boundaries of ska and punk, enabling them to throw a musical curve ball into the mix without notice. Reggae, dixie, jazz, surf, rockabilly, country and swing are all styles in which the group is well versed and aren’t afraid to inject into their unique brand of rock. The members of the Mad Caddies are as diverse as the music they perform but their most notable member is lead vocalist Chuck. Despite his penchant for booze and all things smokable, Chuck’s amazing voice prevails and his crooning could make even Morrissey blush.
The band has toured the U.S., Europe, Canada, Australia and Japan countless times, including stints on ’97, ’98, ’00, ’03 Warped Tours and both the Euro and American Fat Tours of 2000. With 6 studio albums and 1 live record already to their credit the MAD CADDIES realized it was high time to compile a list of favorites, which is exactly what they did withConsentual Selections. Think about it, the lifestyle of the Mad Caddies consists of travelling around the country, making port in unfamiliar towns, causing trouble, imbibing spirits and random pillaging.
Tour dates:
June 10 / London @ Call The Office
June 11 / Toronto @ Hard Luck Bar
June 12 / Hamilton @ The Casbah
June 14 / Montebello @ Rockfest

Swingin' Utters in Canada !

The Swingin’ Utters have been kicking around the San Francisco Bay Area for 25 years now. Their life experiences influence what goes into their records. A case in point is their debut: 1995’s The Streets of San Francisco; their first full length and an essential “streetpunk” masterpiece. Fat Mike took notice of their grit and honesty, and signed them to Fat Wreck Chords. From there they put out a ton of great records, including A Juvenile Product of the Working Class, Five Lessons Learned, Brazen Head, Swingin’ Utters and Dead Flowers, Bottles, Bluegrass, and Bones. For 10 years the Utters toured relentlessly with the likes of Rancid, NOFX, Dropkick Murphys and everyone in between. Which brings us back to celebrating their 25th anniversary, the band fully recharged with their second album in three years and no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
When the Swingin’ Utters finally released Here, Under Protest last April after an 8 year wait, fans were seriously excited and rewarded for their loyalty and patience with another well-crafted punk rock masterpiece. And that was just the start. With a flurry of writing in 2012, the band quickly released a new two song 7” titled The Librarians Are Hiding Something last Fall, with another full length already recorded, now set for release on February 19th, 2013. Now what was particularly cool about this single is that the A-side was a nice precursor to what fans could expect from the upcoming full length in that it welcomed the appearance of new bassist Miles Peck on an Utters record ANDmarked Jack Dalrymple’s debut as a songwriter for the band, as he and vocalist Johnny Bonnel co-wrote Librarians. Said Bonnel, “I’ll simply say it is one of the happiest times in my years with Swingin’ Utters. Being able to create music with these dudes is pretty exciting and I’m looking forward to writing more!” And so onwards and upwards to the present.
With their latest opus Poorly FormedSwingin’ Utters continue to shatter musical boundaries. Obviously they’ve got the punk rock end of the spectrum nailed, and have always had a flare for folk and coun¬try as well, but this album sees them hone their indie/post-punk/garage-rock skills. Part of that is due to the emergence of Jack Dalrymple (of One Man Army fame) as a contributing songwriter for the first time since he officially joined the band and started recording with them on their last full-length. Mix that with Johnny and Darius’ well established songwriting prowess, and round it out with their collective pop sensibilities, and what you end up with is a truly unforgettable album. Picture some classicSwingin’ Utters with a dash of Gang of Four and a pinch of The Strokes, all wrapped up in a bunch of catchy melodies and you’ll start to get an idea of what you’re in for withPoorly Formed.
Get ready to redefine just who the Swingin’ Utters are, since they’re not a band who’s ever made the same record twice. And while the tones and arrangements set this record apart from their recent work, there’s still plenty of piss ‘n’ vinegar along with all the other hallmarks of a great Swingin’ Utters record: catchy melodies, diverse instrumentation, and intelligent, heartfelt lyrics.

7 Seconds Sign with Rise Records; 7" and New LP Coming Soon

RISE RECORDS is proud to announce the signing of legendary hardcore band 7 SECONDS to its family of artists.  Forming in Reno, NV in January 1980, 7 Seconds was the originator of the West Coast Hardcore sound that influenced just about every hardcore band including; Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits and modern day bands like Title Fight and American Nightmare.  It is safe to say the band helped start the “Youth Crew” sound.  Releasing an EP called “Walk Together, Rock Together” in 1985 officially put them on the map. Their positive lyrical content influenced so many youths over the years and they weren’t afraid to push the envelope.

Staying tried and true to their sound, 7 Seconds is back in full effect with a ton of new songs for a 7” and shortly after that, a new full length album.  The guys will be heading into the studio this summer in Sacramento to begin the recording process.  Amazingly enough, the band still has its original 3 members from 1982: Kevin Seconds, Steve Youth and Troy Mowat, plus Bobby Adams, who has been with the band since 1986. Kevin Seconds, the singer and songwriter, had this to say about the new 7” and forthcoming album, “we have about 20 new songs that we'll record the best 13 songs from.  This new record will be all about the energy and drive we still very much possess as a hardcore band.  It's been 9 long years since we've recorded a new album so there's a great deal of urgency in them, with just the right mixture of both fast and mid-tempo tunes for people to sink their teeth into.“

The next few years will be exciting times for 7 Seconds and Rise Records; lots of new music, tours and talks of re-releasing back catalog for a special edition vinyl box-set.  More rumors include the possible recording of their first 20 songs written in 1979 in which only 3 were recorded using a hand held tape recorder. In the meantime, get ready for some 7 Seconds, 1..2..3…Go!

The Motorleague announce their new release Acknowledge, Acknowledge and Canadian tour dates !

The Motorleague is the newest signing to Sonic Records (Matt Mays, Hey Rosetta!, Rich Aucoin). The band’s sophomore release Acknowledge, Acknowledge will be released in-stores and online June 11th. The new single ‘North America’ can be heard now on the band’s website: http://www.themotorleague.ca and is available on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/north-america-single/id637964097

It’s mere seconds into a typical track by The Motorleague that listeners realize what they’re in for. Be it a blistering single-string guitar riff delivered through an amp that’s seemingly been set afire or a bludgeoning smash to the snare drum, this band delivers its punk-influenced hard rock with an unrelenting urgency from start to finish. That was the case with the band’s heralded 2009 debut LP, Black Noise and their 2013 follow-up Acknowledge, Acknowledge features a flurry of high-energy, riff-anchored rock, and is even more dynamic and expressive thanks to producer Steve Rizun (The Flatliners, The Creepshow).
Formed in Moncton, NB from the relics of revered local rock outfits The Ditchpigs and The Monoxides, The Motorleague was originally an outlet for lead vocalist/guitarist/primary songwriter Don Levandier and his band mates to blend a penchant for ‘90s skate punk with the sludgier sounds of stoner rock. “I never knew whether I wanted to be in a punk band or Fu Manchu rip-off,” Levandier says of the group’s formative years, and even now, traces of each are audible in the band’s output.
With the release of Acknowledge, Acknowledge, The Motorleague has marked a new beginning with a firmly-cemented stable of players set to carry the banner forward. Joining Levandier are Shawn Chaisson (bass/vocals), Francis Landry (drums), and Nathan Jones (guitar/vocals). And while their influences are still on their sleeves, over time, The Motorleague has morphed into a rock band that exists strictly on its own terms.
The Motorleague will perform The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto on May 14th at Dave Bookman's Nu Music Nite. Admission is free, stop by for a beer and check out The Motorleague !

More about After The Fall:
Albany, NY's After The Fall will be expanding upon a decade-long career of punk rock with the release of its fourth studio full-length record, Unkind, on March 19, 2013 via Paper + Plastick Records.
The band - consisting of vocalist / guitarist Mike Moak, guitarist Tyler Paige, bassist / vocalist Will Savage, and drummer Chris Millington - recorded Unkind in its hometown with producer Tim Lynch. The record was mixed and mastered by The Descendents' Stephen Egerton.
Serving as the follow-up to the Eradication LP, After The Fall's newest release showcases a sound with more depth than the band has ever had before. With two other full-lengths under the band's belt (2005's Everything and 2009's Fort Orange), the group has honed and perfected its craft and Unkind proves to be its most impressive work.
"This album was recorded as a four-piece," Moak says, "which gave everything a little more depth. We've been a three-piece for the last four years but Will and Tyler rejoining the band have helped us flesh things out and get their influence in on this album and the songwriting."
Between impressive guitar work on songs like "Decade," the album's closer, and Millington's consistently relentless drumming presence, Unkind is a thrill ride through 12 tracks that never take a break in intensity.
