The Sadies set to tour Canada in support of Neil Young & Crazy Horse.

The Sadies are pleased to announce that they will be touring Canada in November as support to Neil Young & Crazy Horse (full list of dates below).  TheJuno Award winners will be returning to the studio with producer Gary Louris in the fall to begin recording the follow-up to the Polaris Music Prize short-listed albumDarker Circles

In 2010, the band saw their collaboration with Neil Young on a cover of "This Wheel's On Fire" released on the A Canadian Celebration of the Band album.  The Sadies recently received rave reviews for their collaboration with Andre WilliamsNight & Day.

Consisting of brothers Dallas and Travis Good, drummer Mike Belitsky and upright bassist Sean Dean, The Sadies’ reputation as “musician’s musicians” and “a real working band” has been earned in roadhouses and bucket-of-blood bars as well as theaters and festivals all over the world where, for the last 14 years, they have astonished audiences with their earthy arsenal of traditional roots music, country, spaghetti western excursions, surf, garage rock, psychedelia, and the slippery beast known as alt rock, all with uncanny precision and passion.

DOG DAY w/ Marine Dreams & Hut - Friday July 13

with guests

Friday July 13, 2012

The Shop under Parts & Labour

Doors at 10:00pm

Tickets available at Rotate This & Soundscapes

Critically-acclaimed Halifax indie pop duo return to Toronto, playing Parts & Labour this July!

After a series of disfiguring rearrangements and amputations, Seth Smith and Nancy Urich ripped out the heart of their band and split for the country. After some time, they learned to forget about the city and to get by fine with just each other. The sound is driven. They started their own label and screen printed the records, keeping it loose and fun. The new two piece drum and guitar, wife and husband approach lets the songs shine bright. The new record, Deformer is simple and raw in that way that can only come through some kind of earned rock and roll wisdom – being weirdly obsessed for too many years. So here we have the deepest Dog Day fantasy yet. Dark, powerful songs of love and hate, the forest, the sea, dreaming… the deformation into a gang of two.

The band will be joined by Marine Dreams, the new project from former Attack In Black member Ian Kehoe, as well as Hut, featuring a cast of Daps Records all stars including Hooded Fang's Daniel Lee and Moon King's Daniel Woodhead.

Strung Out on tour in Canada!

Are proud to announce The “TWISTED IN A SUBURBAN WASTELAND” Tour
They will be playing two landmark albums in their entirety
on a North American headline tour this summer .

Legendary punk rock pioneers STRUNG OUT are preparing to get Twisted In A Suburban Wasteland throughout the US and Canada this summer. They’ll be performing both of their most notable albums - 1996’s Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues and 1998’s Twisted By Design - in their entirety during each set. “It feels right to do one last retrospective before we head into the making of another album. I think people will really enjoy these older songs played back to back,” says lead vocalist Jason Cruz. The tour kicks off at Portland’s Hawthorne Theatre on July 17th, heads north to Canada for eleven shows, then back across the US border to finish up the first string of dates. Such Gold and Handguns will be supporting Strung Out on this trek (dates below).
Easily one of the most influential punk bands still in existence today, Strung Out has managed to perfect the quintessential blend of punk, metal and hardcore in their twenty years of existence. Their blistering technical solos, pounding drums and raw punk fury opened the doors for punks to push the limits of not only their talents but also the entire genre, helping to define some of the biggest names in music today.
“Some of our very first tours were opening for Strung Out, so I had the opportunity to see them live over and over. Growing up in the punk scene, but always having one foot in the metal scene, I appreciated the metal they blended together with pop and punk. Their complex riffs and harmonies challenged and inspired the scores of bands that would walk in their footsteps…” –Tim McIlrath of Rise Against
“They were a huge influence on Thrice in our early stages, and I don’t think I’d be in a band today if they didn’t pique my interest in music back then…” –Riley Breckenridge of Thrice
“Strung Out was a major contributor to my musical influences growing up. I still love throwing on Strung Out to hear the soundtrack to some of my greatest summers…” –M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold

What's Eating Gilbert The Nashville Session = LOVING IT!

New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert will release a new 7” under his What’s Eating Gilbert project on June 19 via Paper + Plastick Records. The two-song 7”, entitled The Nashville Session, is the fourth release from What’s Eating Gilbert. The Nashville Session, which will be released in digital and vinyl formats, was produced by Chad Gilbert & Jon Howard at The Anchor Room in Nashville, Tenn. It follows up three What’s Eating Gilbert releases, the Thinking ‘Bout Her, Dear God and What I’d Do EPs on Epitaph Records. The Nashville Session is the first What’s Eating Gilbert release since late 2010.
Although the project began as an outlet for Gilbert to release his songs for free online, the reaction to the music was immense and lead to physical releases. The Nashville Session has two brand-new songs that match up pound-for-pound with Gilbert’s best work. Featuring the characteristic ‘50s-style pop sounds of the What’s Eating Gilbert discography and infusing a pop-punk tilt from Gilbert’s career with New Found Glory, increased production value on The Nashville Session makes it the best What’s Eating Gilbert release to date. The more uptempo “The One” complements the swingy vibe of “Lonely Road.” The latter of the two songs is an introspective look into Gilbert’s thoughts about tour life, following his pattern of introducing personal experience into What’s Eating Gilbert songs. Female vocal harmonies in the background in the vein of Motown/Stax artists offer a new depth for the songs. Although the release is only two songs long, it’s one to spin over and over again.

I'm quite fucking eager for NXNE to start.

The Novaks, DEER TICK(!!!) and Wintersleep all just played and technically it's not even NXNE yet.

Platinum Blonde are back!

Platinum Blonde have officially announced their return after 12 years releasing their new single "Beautiful"(Fontana North) and a performance atThe Mod Club in Toronto on June 16, 2012. Featuring original members Mark Holmes (Vocals) and Sergio Galli (Guitar) with Rob Laidlaw (Bass) and Dan Todd(Drums), Platinum Blonde unveil "Beautiful" to radio on June 18, in anticipation of new material to be released in the near future. To preview "Beautiful" and for current tour dates, see below.

"I'm aware that there are thousands of bands throughout the years who have tried this seemingly impossible route of returning to former glory, but our route lies in making new glory," explains Mark Holmes, vocalist of Platinum Blonde.

Written by Holmes and produced by Murray Daigle, Rob Laidlaw and Holmes,Platinum Blonde's first single "Beautiful," is an mélange of crisp rock with electro-pop overtones that will rejuvenate fans and appeal to new audiences of alternative and electronic music today.

Platinum Blonde's debut EP Six Track Attack (1983) solidified the group as Canada's new wave genre innovators. Multi-platinum selling follow-up albums Standing In The Dark and Alien Shores spawned numerous chart-topping singles including "Standing In The Dark," "Doesn't Really Matter," and their #1 hit "Crying Over You." The corresponding music videos showcased the band's unique visual aesthetic and bold style allowing them to dominate the music video formats introduced to television at that time. Each release generated colossal success, including 7x Platinum album sales and multiple JUNO Award nominations.

Since parting ways in the early 1990s, Holmes founded internationally acclaimed Toronto's club venue, The Mod Club, allowing him to further explore his musical evolution as DJ MRK, which has heavily influenced the spirit of Platinum Blonde's new music. In 1999, their greatest hits compilation Seven Year Itch: 1982-1989, peaked at #1 and stayed at the top of the sales charts for three weeks. Most recently, Platinum Blonde received the great honour of being inducted into the Music and Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame in 2010 and Canadian electronic duo, Crystal Castles, revived Platinum Blonde's "Not In Love," featuring Robert Smith of The Cure; introducing Platinum Blonde to a new generation of listeners.

Platinum Blonde performs at The Mod Club in Toronto on June 16, 2012. The show is open to all NXNE badge and wristband holders; tickets will be available at the door. For more information, visit
