Howlin Rain Tour for "The Russian Wilds"

San Francisco Bay Area-based power quintet Howlin Rain will be heading out on tour this February in support of their third full-length album The Russian Wilds.
The Russian Wilds, due out February 14th on American Recordings, passionately protests the popular notion that heroic rock music is a thing of golden ages passed. Formed by bandleader-singer-guitarist Ethan Miller in 2004, as a melodic off shoot of blazing new-psych innovators Comets On Fire, Howlin Rain caught the attention of uber-producer Rick Rubin, who signed them to his American Recordings label. Rubin has since involved himself deeply with the band's subsequent musical evolution, including producing The Russian Wilds. Along with Miller, Howlin Rain is: Raj Ojha (drums, percussion), Cyrus Comiskey (bass), Joel Robinow (keyboards, guitar, vocals) and Isaiah Mitchell (guitar, vocals).

Toronto's Elliott BROOD start the New Year with Ontario and Quebec tour dates.

Elliott BROOD will be playing a string of Ontario and Quebec dates this month. The seven-date tour will see the band playing in markets that weren't included on their sold-out cross-country trek in support of Days Into Years. The album will be released in the United States on February 28th with live dates being announced next week.
Days Into Years was a regular on year-end lists over the past month. The album received nods from National Post, Quick Before It Melts, and from TSN's Dave Hodge who compiles a list of his favourite music of the year with colleague Jay Onrait. Elliott BROOD also received kudos for their live show from NOW Magazine and were included on CBC Radio's Top 50 Artists of 2011 list. Recently, Elliott BROOD stopped by CBC Radio 1's Q for a three-song session and interview. Listen to the Q podcast here.
Elliott BROOD released Days Into Years in Canada on September 27th on Paper Bag Records. The album was produced by the band and John Critchley at Green Door Studios, Avening Town Hall and Park Side Drive Studios. Download album track 'If I Get Old' here.
Days Into Years is Elliott BROOD’s third full-length recording, the follow-up to 2008’s Polaris Prize short-listed Mountain Meadows. Like its predecessors, including the 2004 debut EP Tin Type and 2006’s Juno-nominated Ambassador, it mines real history to connect songs that are deeply personal in a cinematic, narrative way. Unfolding like a series of movie scenes, it looks to the future by starting with the past. Opening track “Lindsay” invites you into process of revisiting one’s life while cleaning out an old family home. “If I Get Old” daydreams of making it through difficult times, be they in the trenches or a sickbed, and finding a nice place in the country to live out one’s final moments. Days Into Years presents these reflections as a celebration of life, particularly on the perfect summer single “Northern Air”, a love letter both to the rural Ontario landscape and the memory of a departed friend whose spirit now resides there.

The groundbreaking, highly influential Swedish hardcore band Refused have announced a series of shows scheduled for summer 2012. This is the band’s first appearance since their breakup in the late ‘90s and will include performances at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 13th and 20th and the Way Out West Festival in Sweden Aug 9-11.

Refused have released the following statement and the full statement can be found here:
...It's been a motley 14 years since our band came apart. We've all kept busy in our respective endeavors but we've all remained friends and kept in touch. There have been offers, and lots of jokes about these offers. We've sort of looked down from our high horses and made fun of people who've just wanted to share the psychopathic intensity that we would deliver on a nightly basis in our post-pubescent prime. A reunion has just seemed irrelevant to us. Too much other shit to do…

…We never did "The Shape of Punk To Come" justice back when it came out, too tangled up in petty internal bickering to really focus on the job. And suddenly there's this possibility to do it like it was intended. We wanna do it over, do it right. For the people who've kept the music alive through the years, but also for our own sakes…
Originally released in 1998, The Shape of Punk to Come “blurred the lines that separate punk, metal and hardcore, while peppering this brutal fusion with bits of techno percussion, jazzy rhythmic change-ups and long, complex song structures that support politically-charged messages,” (CMJ,1998). Refused’s most critically acclaimed and final album exploded on the scene with the jaw-dropping hardcore anthem “New Noise,” which helped change the game forever by influencing a range of genres to this day, which includes being named “Best New Re-issue” by in 2010.

Refused declines any interview requests at this time. Additional dates will be made official and can be found by going to and for announcements.

Buffalo’s magnificently brutal metallic punk ensemble Every Time I Die are set to unleash brand new album titled Ex Lives this March 6th via Epitaph Records. The new album was produced by renowned heavy rock producer Joe Baressi (The Melvins, Queens of the Stone Age, Parkway Drive) and offers an unrelenting onslaught of ingeniously composed and furiously executed cathartic hardcore.
This is the band’s highly anticipated follow up to 2009’s raging masterwork New Junk Aesthetic which Absolute Punk heralded as a musical “weapon of mass destruction” and described as “the group further refining its signature approach with a new sonic clarity - energized and passionate, delivering its blend of old and new sounds with a directness that gives the ferocious music an unusually broad appeal.”

Every Time I Die’s new album Ex Lives is currently available for pre-order at:

You can now watch a video for the song “Underwater Bimbos From Outer Space” from the new album. The powerful clip was directed by the band’s vocalist and lyricist Keith Buckley and features a barrage of startling visceral images which perfectly match the raging brutality of the track. As Buckley explains, “In order to write lyrics I had to pay attention to the defeatism that the music suggested. To compile this video I had to acknowledge the masochism I wrote of to myself. You don’t get rewarded for your faith and you don’t get celebrated for your heroism. Just when you find yourself attached, you have lost it. Everything is borrowed. C'est la vie.”
