Following the recent release of his self-titled record with Groundswell Music/Warner, Carleton Stone is taking his infectious pop/rock tracks on the road this November, playing for audiences across six of ten Canadian provinces. Stone will be pairing up with veteran Tom Wilson and The Heartbroken on most of these dates.
Carleton Stone is quickly gaining a reputation for his hook-laden songwriting and his charismatic and soulful live sets. It's no surprise that after getting his music to JUNO award-winning artist Hawksley Workman in 2010 that the two joined forces. Workman produced Stone's self-titled album and co-wrote on the track "Million Dollar Heart". Songs on the album stand out with a perfect blend of pop, rock, and alt-country that supports Stone's impeccable songwriting.
Stone's 2009 debut album, Carleton Stone Drives The Big Wheel, was independently released and garnered an East Coast Music Award nomination (Rock Recording of The Year) plus two nominations from Music Nova Scotia (New Artist/Ground Recording & Pop/Rock Artist/Group Recording.)

Legendary Goran Bregovic Plays Toronto on October 21st at the Sony Centre!

Wavelets - Pre-Order Debut LP / Out Digitally Today

Athaletics, the debut full-length from Gainesville, FL's Wavelets is now available for pre-order from Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, CSTVT, Look Mexico, Restorations). The 12" LP will see a November 29, 2011 release date, while the digital version is out today via Bandcamp and iTunes. It's also worth noting that all vinyl pre-orders come with an instant mp3 download for the 9-song album.
Pressed on 180 gram vinyl, Athaletics is limited to 500 on three colorways (75 clear / 150 transparent red / 275 black) and includes a hand-screened insert and an mp3 download code. The first 50 pre-orders will receive a limited-edition, hand-screened print with exclusive artwork by Wavelets' drummer, Lee Kraft. Additionally, all pre-orders will be entered to win a test pressing of the record.
Tiny Engines and Wavelets recently teamed up with RCRD LBL and to give away two new tracks from Athaletics. Download free mp3s for "Cannonball" and "Cam Taylor Is So American Kushball" here and here.
Additionally, Wavelets was recently included on the Topshelf Records 2011 Label Sampler. This compilation features some of the very best of the underground emo / punk scenes, including Pianos Become The Teeth, Touché Amoré, Moving Mountains, Balance And Composure, La Dispute, Grown Ups, Bars Of Gold and much much more ... not to mention most of the Tiny Engines Roster as well. To download "My Dad The Manatee" from Wavelets, plus 67 other amazing songs, go here.
Recorded by Matt Finch and Ryan Williams at Black Bear Studios (Hot Water Music, Chris Wollard, City Of Ships), Athaletics traverses nine tracks of somersaulting, emotionally charged indie rock (let's just call it emo) that initially feels a little out of place in relation to the tuneful, gruff punk that Gainesville and its bearded denizens have become known for. Still, great music transcends scenes, genres and geographical limitations; in that sense Wavelets is thriving with its boundless energy and freewheeling, friends-first attitude ... not to mention the outfit's ability to create music that is both intricately complex and instantly catchy. It's this unique blend of technicality and structural ingenuity that initially grabs our attention, but it's Athaletics comforting nostalgia and sense of fun that really wins us over and begs for repeat spins. Recommended for fans of Algernon Cadwallader, Street Smart Cyclist and Weatherbox.
Since its 2009 inception, Wavelets has self-released a handful of digital EPs and singles, as well as a 7" split with hometown brethren, Senders. To download the band's full discography, go here. Also, if you have an extra minute, do yourself a favor and download the new EP from Dikembe, which features Wavelets front man Steven Gray as well as bassist Ryan Willems.
Finally, don't forget to catch Wavelets at this year's FEST 10 in Gainesville. The band will be playing on Friday (10/28) at Bar 1982 with Grown Ups, Spraynard, Go Rydell, Nightmares For A Week and more. For additional information, go here.

Northcote announces more tour dates in support of Gather No Dust.

Victoria-based singer-songwriter Northcote is pleased to announce more Canadian tour dates in support of his brilliant debut album Gather No Dust. Released earlier this year on Black Box, Gather No Dust has quietly emerged as one of the albums of the year. A full list of dates can be found below, including shows with label-mates The Wooden Sky.
In addition to the tour dates, Northcote has launched a four part documentary series called "Only You Can See Me" on his website. View the first part by clicking here or on the still below. The documentary is a more intimate introduction to Matt Goud, the voice behind Northcote. The footage was captured during a series of shows earlier this year, paired with an extensive interview covering his youth, music, inspiration and his newest album, Gather No Dust. The documentary series will be released one per week for the next few weeks, and are accompanied by a free download of an exclusive track. This week, the free mp3 is an acoustic version of the song "Take The Ride".
A unique voice in Canada’s broad musical aesthetic, Goud is no stranger to movement having years of North American touring under his belt in an influential post-hardcore group all beginning while in high school. Since the groups disbanding in November of 2008, Goud followed a number of different personal and musical paths, which lead to the arrival of his debut solo effort, an EP entitled Borrowed Chords, Tired Eyes (Black Box, 2009). With the new EP, Goud took to the road and continued to build his audience across Canada while gaining experience along the way. Touring took many forms, including solo in a two-door car or riding backbench in the overflowing van of a headlining act.
Gather No Dust was tracked in rural Southern Ontario in November 2010 with producer Dan Weston (Attack in Black, Classified, Shad, City and Colour). While staying committed to a minimal and atmospheric approach to writing and recording, Gather No Dust fittingly ventures into new territory both sonically and lyrically.

Produced by Nolan Perry, mastered by Justin Perkins (Screeching Weasel, The Riverdales, Direct Hit!) and featuring artwork from Dave Watt, In Revival is the follow-up to The Mighty Fine's 2010 self-released full-length, Bad Timing For Everything. On its latest stellar effort, the California trio extolls the most positive virtues of contemporaries such as The Menzingers and Against Me! - driving, punchy rhythms, soaring choruses and dynamic song structures - while still carving out a unique space for itself within the crowded punk universe. Played with passion and a fiery conviction, but also executed with precision and carefully considered ideas, In Revival bares the mark of a band ready for bigger and better things.

In Revival is currently streaming in its entirety at The listen to the full-album, go here. Additionally, you can download free mp3s for the songs "To Indiana" and "Paper Trails."

Adaline ready to celebrate the release of Modern Romantics with shows in Toronto and Vancouver.

Adaline is excited to announce two release shows in Toronto and Vancouver in support of her stellar second album Modern Romantics (full details below). The album will be available from November 1st and was produced by Hawksley Workman with additional production from Marten Tromm, and Tino Zolfo. Watch a short making-of documentary on her new website here or by clicking the still below. Get a sneak-peek of Modern Romantics by downloading an MP3 for "Wasted Time" here.
Modern Romantics is invested with the depth and imagination you only ever get from high-end, ultra-talented music nerds, whether it’s in the meticulously layered percussion and noise – timpani included - of the Metric-gone-industrial “Wasted Time”, or the tonal shifts that bring such deliberate force to Adaline’s cathedral-sized ballad, “Say Goodbye (I Won’t Even)”. Adaline achieves near Judy Garland levels of melodrama on “That’s What You Do Best”, the stately electro-torch song that opens Modern Romantics. But she doesn’t get there without boxing your ears with wiggy sax (from Shuffle Demon Richard Underhill) and unhinged guitar solos (by Workman) on the way, the latter sounding like it was recorded in a reinforced missile silo. There’s a lot of tastefully rendered sonic action on the way to that quivering, love-burnt climax.

Addressing the Get Up Kids breaking up rumours... I'm late, but better than never?

"The Get Up Kids are not breaking up after this European tour, as has been erroneously announced in some areas of the press. What was said was that this could be the last set of tour dates for a spell, especially in Europe, as members are splitting off to work on some other projects for a while. That is—Matt Pryor has a new solo album, May Day (which was funded with the help of a Kickstarter campaign) that is due in January. Rob Pope is likely working on a new Spoon album (Britt Daniel has spent the year writing new songs for the next release). James Dewees continues to play in My Chemical Romance. Ryan Pope is spending some time in Europe. Jim Suptic is being a dad for the second time.

It is not even a 'hiatus' which always seems to mean something much more final. At this point, there are no Get Up Kids dates booked beyond the current set of shows in Europe, but that doesn't mean we won't be looking to do more live touring in the future. We've had a great time making these new songs, and playing them live, and have enjoyed being a band together again, so the Get Up Kids will be continuing on in 2012 and beyond. We started working on this current album, There Are Rules, over two years ago, and have toured the world supporting the release, for what will be the better part of 10 months (and in fact had played a lot in 2010 prior to the album release, too)—we have been working hard on being the Get Up Kids again. So taking some time to work on some other projects seems well deserved."

With THE ARTERIES preparing to invade North America on tour with The Flatliners and Dead To Me, the UK punk group has unveiled a stream of its recent critically acclaimed full-length, Dead Sea. Stream the record here.
Dead Sea came out in October 2010 in the UK and a vinyl pressing became available on Paper + Plastick in early 2011. To celebrate the stream, Paper + Plastick Records is putting the record up for sale in vinyl format for a short time. Also, has a contest to win a copy of each of the three vinyl variations for free here.
Dead Sea was subject to favorable reviews from critics, with Alter The Press calling them “a fucking great punk rock band” in their 5-Star review. “Whether you got into punk rock through Punk-O-Rama or through Fall Out Boy you will find something to cherish on Dead Sea,” the review reads. “Long may The Arteries continue doing this themselves.” Meanwhile, in their 4.5-star review, Punktastic called Dead Sea “a ballsy record with attitude,” adding, “The Arteries have a confidence and an ability to just write great songs and great choruses that will stick in your head for a long, long time afterwards.”
While their upcoming two and a half-week weave through North America won’t the band’s first U.S. tour, it might be their most anticipated. Supporting Dead Sea, the band will tour its way from New York to The Fest 10 in Gainesville, Fla. It will the tour its way back up to Washington, D.C., before heading back home.

Challenges - Debut LP Available from Pre-Order from Say-10

We Ruined The Neighborhood, the debut full-length from Challenges (Millbury, MA) is now available for Pre-order from Say-10 (The Riot Before, GDP, Dirty Tactics). The album will see an official street date of October 11th on CD and LP format, with the latter being limited to 300 on green vinyl. These 11 stellar pop-punk gems are also available digitally via iTunes and Bandcamp, where you can also stream the record in its entirety.
To celebrate the upcoming release, Challenges and Say-10 are giving away ultra-rare vinyl test pressings of Neighborhood to two lucky pre-order customers. For more information, go here.
Recorded by Ian Van Opijnen (Born Without Bones, Energy, The Hotel Year) and originally self-released by the band in late 2010, We Ruined The Neighborhood is busting at the seams with passion, buoyant enthusiasm and a truckload of sing-along hooks. There's no doubt that Challenges is a young band with energy to spare. In that respect, the quintet's debut follows in the footsteps of contemporaries such as The Wonder Years, Four Year Strong and fellow Bay Staters, Transit. However, Neighborhood is able to harness that electricity and wrap it around engaging song structures and a surprisingly mature grasp of composition, bringing to mind pop-punk forefathers like Blink 182 and New Found Glory.
To download a free mp3 for the song "Drop The 'R'" go here. Additionally, Challenges recently debuted a video for "I Was Always Good At Lying," which you can view here.

In related news, Say-10 and Challenges will be teaming up again for a split 7" with the UK's Who's Driving? Bears Driving!. The record will be released on November 22, 2011. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.

Big John Bates in Toronto !

Big John Bates is happy to announce the new 7" release (Bad Pussy / Scarecrow Close) and The Autumn 2011 Hellfire Remedy Tour.
Big John Bates has been concocting his hellfire remedies for the past decade; an endorsed Gretsch-slinger that's played over 1000 shows in 17 countries for tens of thousands of fans. Now he's hooked up with a menacing new band whose style is "like being serenaded with a rusty hammer"; pounding the dark roots of Americana with garage punk blues. Clutch your drink to your chest and leave your chastity at the door - there is nothing like a night with these devil-may-care troubadours.
The band features the enigmatic Hofner-endorsee Brandy Bones on upright bass (and sharing lead vocals) and Tim (T-Hag) Hagberg hell-bent on the drums. Their trusty Murderbus will hit the road with a limited edition 7" pressing of "Scarecrow Close / Bad Pussy" featuring a smoking Braineater cover design. The Hellfire Remedy Tour crosses Canada and the Northern USA in Oct/Nov 2011. And stay tuned - they just completed their new album Battered Bones with Todd Simko (Pure) and Mark Robertson (Legendary Shack Shakers) to be released in early 2012.

Paper Lions TOUR!

East coast favourites Paper Lions will bring their exuberant indie pop rock to stages across the country this fall on a national tour, along with a 'taste' of their home province to each city they visit. After spending a month in Ontario, the band will head west and preview four new songs from their forthcoming LP in the process. Audio Blood is teaming up with Young Lions Music Club to present "the Paper Lions Rolling Oyster Revue"; a tasty idea that sees the band shipping and shucking fresh PEI oysters for fans and friends at day events in many tour markets nationwide.
