Nova Scotia Roots Artist Kim Wempe Announces National Tour Dates to Support 'Painting with TIdes'

Nova Scotia roots artist Kim Wempe will embark on a cross-Canada tour with fellow songwriter Gabrielle Papillon this fall. Wempe is a true east coast gem! The single "Chameleon" (off of her latest album Painting With Tides) which Joel Plaskett collaborates on, is one of those chill inducing folk songs. Her voice and songs are unforgettable and the east coast has already caught on. Having being nominated and winning an East Coast Music Award and Galaxie Prize for Rising Star Recording of the Year, it's just a matter of time before the rest of Canada catches up.
Other collaborators on her latest album Painting With Tides include Old Man Luedecke, Thom Swift, and Geoff Hillhorst of the Deep Dark Woods. To say she keeps good company is an understatement. Wempe has shared stages with the likes of Jenn Grant, Amelia Curran, Royal Wood, Jill Barber, Matt Andersen, David Francey, Rawlins Cross, Madison Violet, and many others.
"What makes Painting With Tides so enjoyable is that Wempe is an honest songwriter who sings from the soul with music that taps into the inner workings of the human condition - you can't help but feel connected to every nuance and word. Simply put, a full-length masterpiece. Now it is time for the rest of Canada to catch-up." - Stage Door Music Reviews
Painting with Tides consists of eleven tracks that touch on all ranges of the folk and roots spectrum. Recorded by Charles Austin (Buck 65, Jenn Grant).
Wempe's raw and emotional performances have garnered comparisons to Adele, Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin.
Kim Wempe's undeniable talent has been showcased at JUNOFest, the Vancouver Olympics, Canadian Music Week, and festivals across the East Coast. In September of this year she will return to stages across the country, bringing her powerful live set to auidences from coast to coast. Touring alongside her is up and coming singer-songwriter Gabrielle Papillon.

Ghost Robot Ninja Bear - Midwest Tour

GHOST ROBOT NINJA BEAR will be hitting the road for a short Midwest tour in support of its Self-Titled debut full-length. The band is the newest vehicle for former Nakatomi Plaza front man Oscar Albis Rodriguez, who will be performing solo for each of the five upcoming shows.
The Self-Titled record was self-released by Ghost Robot Ninja Bear earlier this summer and is available on CD format from Rodriguez at shows, as well as digitally from iTunes and other online retailers. Additionally, the album is available via Bandcamp as a pay-what-you-like download. Grab this terrific album for free, or show some love by donating a little something that will help Rodriguez survive for the next week on the road.
Recorded by Dave Snyder ( Ruth Ruth, Rivington, Nakatomi Plaza ), produced by Rodriguez and mixed by J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines) this eponymous album is the follow-up to last year's two digital singles, Staring At The Clocks b/w Carousel and One Pedal To Another b/w Blood, The Tango. For these eight songs, GRNB enlisted the help of some very talented friends: Gunnar Olsen (The Exit, Asobi Seksu), Shawna Potter (Avec / War on Women), Brendan Coon (Ludlow Lions) and Al Fair (Nakatomi Plaza, Bridge and Tunnel) to name a few.
With Ghost Robot Ninja Bear, Oscar Albis Rodriguez once again takes center stage and appears poised to escape the shadow of former bands. Thankfully, this collection of tracks won't allow us completely forget older endeavors; still, it's apparent that the front man's songwriting abilities continue to evolve in exciting ways and his musical chops are sharper than ever. Weaving adventurous, dynamic compositions around anthemic choruses, GRNB specializes blazing riffs and layered harmonies that toe the line between melodic and graveled, while the rhythm section deftly propels each song into the next. It's clear that Rodriguez has created a vehicle in Ghost Robot Ninja Bear that can stand on its own and will continue to forge a unique identity well into the future while paying tribute to the past.

In related news, Ghost Robot Ninja Bear will be recording a new digital single this fall. Rodriguez will also record a new solo album in the coming months. It will be the follow-up to the aptly titled Oscar Albis Rodriguez's Big Day EP, which you can download here.

The Flatliners On Tour In Canada

Punk rock used to be about haggard road warriors. The Flatliners have had their share of breakdowns, flat irons, busted transmissions and collect calls home. But during it all always believing it was all more than worthwhile. After seven years of playing together, they released their third full-length "Cavalcade" (Drive Records/Fat Wreck Chords) in 2010, and now more recently supporting their August 2011 release of their 7inch "Count Your Bruises" from Fat Wreck Chords, along with two previously unreleased tracks from the "Cavalcade" studio sessions.
Over the last four years, The Flatliners have spent almost thirty months in vans, dive bars, and concert halls across North America, Europe, and Japan, building up a dedicated following with a sound that mixes the endless fury of ‘90s skate punk with the nuanced, intelligent songwriting of classic post-punks like the Replacements and Hot Water Music. After releasing the ska-punk tinged Destroy to Create (Union Label Group) in 2005, the band evolved into a harsh melodic machine with 2007’s "The Great Awake" (Fat Wreck Chords/Union 2112), and completing their transition into a vital modern punk/rock unit with their Cynics 7inch (Fat Wreck Chords) in late 2009.

The band’s new 7inch "Count Your Bruises" reinforces the growing sentiment The Flatliners have arrived, and are one of the most promising touring acts from Canada now performing to audiences around the world.
They’ve grown up and in front of a crowd of like-minded punks, and they’ve made the sacrifices to keep the wheels of their van on the road, and doing what they do is the ultimate reward.
Don’t miss your chance to see The Flatliners live with Living With Lions, Broadway Calls and The Arteries this Fall!

Light for Fire Mixes Booze and Drugs on New Single + MP3

Made up of former members of The Village Green, the Portland, OR based band has drawn comparisons to a handful of other indie-folk acts making the rounds. While flattering, don't let these comparisons fool you, Light For Fire retains their own fuzzed out, upbeat flavor of folk rock.
Light for Fire's first single from the album "NY (By The Hand)" is still available for download at the link below.

The Chemical Brothers Hanna Soundtrack To Get Physical Release

The Chemical Brothers are a known force in the electronic world - pumping out innovative and engaging music for over 20 years. Their latest release, the soundtrack for action-thriller film Hanna, is no exception. The soundtrack, like the film, is dark yet somehow radiant, taking on the persona of the film's protagonist Hanna, a teenage girl acting as a warrior in a world she barely knows.
On September 6th, the soundtrack will finally see a physical release through Relativity Music Group. Preview a song from the soundtrack and watch the trailer for the film below...

Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) is a teenage girl. Uniquely, she has the strength, the stamina, and the smarts of a soldier; these come from being raised by her father (Eric Bana), an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of Finland. Living a life unlike any other teenager, her upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin.
The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own (Cate Blanchett). As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity.

Toronto's Elliott BROOD make 'If I Get Old' available for download.

Band announces Canadian tour dates with support from One Hundred Dollars.
Elliott BROOD are pleased to announce a Canadian tour in support of their forthcoming album Days Into Years. The tour, which is presented by CBC Radio 3, will start on October 13th in Guelph ending on November 19th in Montreal with One Hundred Dollars as support on all of the dates. Days Into Years is Elliott BROOD’s third full-length recording, the follow-up to 2008’s Polaris Prize short-listed Mountain Meadows. Like its predecessors, including the 2004 debut EP Tin Type and 2006’s Juno-nominated Ambassador, it mines real history to connect songs that are deeply personal in a cinematic, narrative way. Unfolding like a series of movie scenes, it looks to the future by starting with the past. Opening track “Lindsay” invites you into process of revisiting one’s life while cleaning out an old family home. “If I Get Old” daydreams of making it through difficult times, be they in the trenches or a sickbed, and finding a nice place in the country to live out one’s final moments. Days Into Years presents these reflections as a celebration of life, particularly on the perfect summer single “Northern Air”, a love letter both to the rural Ontario landscape and the memory of a departed friend whose spirit now resides there.
Elliott BROOD are Casey Laforet (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass pedals, bass guitar, mandolin, banjo, lap steel, vocals) Mark Sasso (banjo, guitar, harmonica, vocals) and Stephen Pitkin (percussion, drums, piano, vocals).
Toronto's One Hundred Dollars released their second full length album, Songs Of Man, on Outside Music on May 1o, 2011. The ten-track album is the band's follow-up to their acclaimed 2008 debut Forest Of Tears. Both albums have been included on the Polaris Music Prize Long List. Songs of Man reflects a change in personnel, approach and instrumentation for the band. Recorded to tape over twelve days at Blue Rodeo's Woodshed studio, Songs of Man contains ten distinct narrative perspectives and the sounds to match them.

About the Artists:
Alysha Brillinger’s blues and reggae influenced songs combine her funky guitar playing and unique voice to create a fresh new organic vibe of music. With a clever and emotional lyrical sensibility topping melodies that get stuck in your head, her upbeat songs cover everything from the perils of an omitted crush to keeping your head above water in hard times.
A multi-instrumentalist with a Tanzanian musician for a father, her on-stage banter and stories prove to be every bit entertaining as the music. Managed by Chris Taylor and signed to Universal/Lava (Los Angeles), Alysha currently has a self-titled EP out, and is releasing a full-length album this Christmas.

Her smooth, honey-sweet vocals effortlessly lend themselves to both the soft acoustic ballads and sassy, rocking blues songs she crafts so passionately.
Spending three years in New York City she worked in the legendary Brill Building singing on tracks mixed by super-producer Phil Ramone (Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin), recording with Steely Dan's live sound engineer and performing in the city's most loved venues (The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall). Kristen has now returned to her hometown of Montreal and released her debut EP 'Diamonds to Dust' in July 2011.

Campaign - On Tour

CAMPAIGN (Atlanta, GA) are heading out for a short East Coast tour in support of the band's newest EP, Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!. The band's third EP is available for free download exclusively on If You Make It. Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! is the band's follow-up to their highly-acclaimed 2010 EP, It Likes To Party.
In addition to these upcoming shows, Campaign have been added to the Southeastern Hardcore Fest in Chattanooga, TN in September and The Fest 10 in Gainesville.
Make sure you check out the Nervous Energies session the band performed earlier this year. Additionally, Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! and It Likes To Party are both streaming exclusively on
With Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!, Campaign moves forward with their sound while still paying homage to their influences. Comparisons to beardcore favorites is inevitable but these four new songs move Campaign beyond all the usual suspects. Practicing a heavier approach, the band's songs take on a whole new life often moving into thicker post-hardcore waters. The melody remains front and center in Campaign's passionate hardcore anthems but the band has added new dimensions to their sound. The anger and vitriol have been ratcheted up a notch here as the dynamic five-piece sounds downright combustible. With Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Campaign prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are indeed the real deal.
Also, you can still download the band's previous EPs, 2010's It Likes To Party and 2009's H1N1, for free here. How's that for instant gratification!?

Campaign is heading out for select East Coast dates in support of Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! playing shows with Off With Their Heads, Dead To Me, Banquets and Worn In Red.

Cuff The Duke make first single from new album Morning Comes available for download.

Cuff The Duke will release their fifth album Morning Comes on October 4th on their new label, Paper Bag Records. The ten-track album was produced by Blue Rodeo's Greg Keelor and is the first part of a two part album. Morning Comes includes single 'Count On Me' (MP3) and an eight minute epic called 'Bound To Your Own Vices'. Cuff The Duke are also excited to announce a tour of Western Canada. The alt-country road-warriors will hit the road on October 20th in Thunder Bay (full list of dates below). More Canadian dates will be announced soon.
"These albums are about dealing with loss of someone and the change that brings to one's life," says the band's Wayne Petti. "The confusion and loneliness that occurs at that point in someone's life. Coming to grips with the reality of those things. By the end of this record we start to make peace with this and come to terms with it. All these songs are about that. They deal with a similar theme and emotion but still wondering in the back of our minds whether there will be a point to all of it. That's what the second record will be about. Embracing what has happened and navigating down new roads. This album is the low and the next album will be the high."
Cuff the Duke started out in Oshawa before making the move to Toronto in 2002. Their debut album, Life Stories For Minimum Wage was released on Three Gut Records, at the time one of the most exciting indie-labels in Canada. Their second and third albums, Cuff The Duke and Sidelines And The City respectively, were both released on Hardwood Records alongside label mates Basia Bulat and Hayden. Their last album, Way Down Here was co-produced by Blue Rodeo’s Greg Keelor at his beautiful barn studio in rural Ontario.
Paper Bag Records is one of North America’s finest independent record labels. Based in Toronto, Paper Bag Records has cultivated an exciting and diverse roster which includes both domestic and international talent. Recently, the label became the Canadian home for acclaimed electronic act Austra and the enthralling Rural Alberta Advantage, and the North American label for alt-folk stars Elliott BROOD and Cuff The Duke. In its eighth year of existence, Paper Bag Records is currently working with an exciting active roster of PS I Love You, Born Ruffians, The Acorn, Winter Gloves, Woodhands, CFCF, Slim Twig, Sally Shapiro and Under Byen. Paper Bag Records has four albums featured on the long list for 2011’s Polaris Music Prize.

SWTHRT - On Tour / New Video

SWTHRT (Southport, NC) are heading out for a short tour in support of the band's debut album, Compact Disc. The album can be downloaded for free on SWTHRT's Bandcamp. RCRD LBL calls it a "raw, DIY take on new wave".
The band also shot their first video recently. With an expansive budget of nearly $9, the band put together a humorous video for "No Holiday" which can be viewed here. Additionally, you can sample "I Am In Misery" on RCRD LBL.
Rising from the indie/punk of his full-time band, Museum Mouth, Karl Kuehn creates something a bit different with SWTHRT. What started out as a senior graduation project for keyboardist Becca High, turned into a real band after only a few days of writing/recording between the two friends. With that, the new wave/shoegaze pop of SWTHRT was officially born. Echoing influences like New Order, The Cure and late period Joy Division, SWTHRT carries on the DIY/punk aesthetic of Museum Mouth while pushing the new wave tendencies to the foreground.
Recorded in the mountains of North Carolina, Compact Disc simmers with youthful frustration. There is a real dichotomy with Kuehn's deep vocals resonating over the instantly affecting guitar and keyboard driven hooks of the band. The airy instrumental swells carry you far away while the duo's restless lyrical stylings slowly bring you back down to earth. With both Kuehn and High in transitional phases of their lives, Compact Disc serves as a cathartic project for them both. It also serves as quite the magical beginning for SWTHRT.

Nurses Announce Fall Tour with Dominant Legs

Following the September 20th (September 19 in the UK) release of Dracula, Nurses embark on a North American tour joined by fellow pop innovators Dominant Legs. September 22, Nurses hold their official album release show at Holocene in their hometown of Portland, OR. We don't know what the Nurses have in store for Portland, but their hometown shows are memorable, costumed, special-guest-laden, multimedia affairs that do not disappoint.
On Dracula, Nurses tap into the physicality of rhythm and how it speaks to the body itself, and this translates in their live performances. Nurses' three members blend hypnotic sounds, shifting from instrument to instrument effortlessly, creating the feel of three producers onstage. Their performances are immersive, visceral experiences, and the dubby groove of Dracula is perfectly conducive to this performance approach. With the Girls-affiliated Dominant Legs joining them on tour in support of their upcoming album Invitation (out September 27th), this tour features two of fall's pop benders on one stage every night. Check out the full tour dates below, and if you haven't already heard the first track from Dracula click below and start sweating to "Fever Dreams."

If you aren't yet familiar with Little Dragon, it's only a matter of time. Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden Little Dragon are kicking up dust and leaving a whirlwind behind. It's hard to pinpoint exactly where the international attention started, but one could say it is attributed to the combination of overseas touring, rave reviews on their 2007 release Machine Dreams, and collection of high profile friends accumulated along the way. In fact, Little Dragon was asked to collaborate on two tracks from last year's Plastic Beach by Gorrillaz. The two collaborated songs quickly became Pitchfork's favourites, describing them as "two of the most arresting things here; they're airy, elusive and amazingly beautiful".
Since then, the band's single "Twice" has not only been played on the hit TV show Grey's Anatomy, but also used in numerous commercials. Earlier this year on their US headlining tour, Little Dragon performed on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
The upcoming album Ritual Union promises to combine the jazzy, whimsical vibes of their debut LP while maintaining the upfront and danceable sounds of the widely loved Machine Dreams. Recorded on their own at the Seal Colonie in Gothenburg, the album holds what sounds to be their most club-friendly track to date. The follow-up to what has been described as a "superb second's magic" by Dazed & Confused is slated for release through EMI Canada July 26th 2011.

Early & Often - New EP / On Tour

Early & Often (Sacramento, CA) are heading out for a short West Coast tour in support of the band's new EP, Present No Fiction, Fear No Tense, on Sell The Heart (Santa Rosa, CA). The first show is tonight at Bottom of The Hill in San Francisco. The show is a Sell The Heart Showcase with label mates Build Us Airplanes and Goodriddler also playing.
Keeping the inspirational arrangements of such staple bands as Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Explosions in the Sky close in mind, California’s Early & Often have crafted a unique take on shoegaze within Present No Fiction, Fear No Tense.

You can hear/download the track "No Fiction" on RCRD LBL right now.

The ticking of analog tape accompanies the sound clip opening the first track of Present No Fiction, Fear No Tense, “Under the Phase”, before dissolving into a whoosh of near silence that clears the way for a hesitantly strumming guitar and a ghostly vocal emission from singer Jeffrey Wright. This opener sets the mood for what is an astral and almost otherworldly sound throughout the record, its haunting tranquility only interrupted by the occasional bursting crescendo of trilling guitar. Pulsing swells of minimalist sound gracefully rise and fall throughout Present No Fiction, Fear No Tense as the band’s broad, echoing sound entirely envelops its listener within just six tracks. Gentle piano pairs against the faltering croon of Wright as he pushes out notes with just enough control to prove the shift in his voice comes only from pure emotion. Drummer/programmer Cliff Mattis blends tweaked out stops with a clutter of day-to-day noises, sound clips and Wright’s vocals to create disjointed intervals between tracks that, in their own way, provide a cohesion entirely unique to Early & Often’s sound. The band presents a heavy dose of post rock in Present No Fiction, Fear No Tense that fans of Mogwai, Radiohead and bands of the like will find all at once familiar and refreshing.

Dinosaur Jr.'s First Three Albums Back on Vinyl This October

By now, you know the story: J Mascis, Lou Barlow, & Patrick “Murph” Murphy, meet in
Amherst, MA. J, Lou & Murph start a band. Said band goes on to rip through the musical
landscape and prove to be the genesis of the “alternative rock” archetype.
Over the last 25+ years, Dinosaur Jr. have influenced a countless number of bands, both peers and protégés, by wailing their classic union of melodic bass, seething drums, virtuosic guitar shredding and listless vocal delivery through the iconic Marshall stacks.
Jagjaguwar is honored to reissue the band's first three albums on vinyl, Dinosaur, You’re Living All Over Me and Bug, on October 4th, 2011. Originally released on the venerable Homestead and SST labels in the 1980’s, the reissues stay true to form and include the cardinal track lists.
Dinosaur Jr. recently completed a sold-out tour playing Bug in its entirety, and the acclaimed 33 1/3 book series by Continuum released Nick Attfield's book about You're Living All Over Me this summer.

The anticipated new album Radiosurgery from pop punk heroes New Found Glory is set to arrive in stores October 4th via Epitaph Records. Fans can preorder the album now by going to the Epitaph Store.

The first single from the album, title track “Radiosurgery” is currently available for download at iTunes CA here;

The album Radiosurgery continues the band’s high energy musical journey while simultaneously paying homage to the bands that inspired them to first pick up instruments as teenagers back in Coral Springs Florida.
“Our music is constantly evolving and changing and when this band puts out an album we always try to offer something different,” explains guitarist Chad Gilbert. “With this disc we wanted to go back to the music that got us into punk and incorporate influences from those albums.”
For this latest venture, New Found Glory was aided by a trusted producer Neal Avron, who worked with the band on Catalyst in 2004, and has honed his chops in the interim with artists like Fall Out Boy and Linkin Park. The resulting songs sound undeniably like New Found Glory but they also have a timeless punk feel that will appeal to both diehard fans as well as new converts.
“This album is a culmination of all of our albums put together and in a lot of ways we feel like a new band when we’re playing these songs because they’re so energized and they affirm the fact that we’re going to be a band for a long time,” summarizes guitarist Steve Klein. “In a lot of ways it feels like we’re just getting started.”
The band also announced its Fall Headline Tour entitled Pop Punk’s Not Dead, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink. Tour pre-sale begins today and fans can get tickets at reduced fees along with special ticket/album bundle packages by going to:

To celebrate the pre-order, Banquets and Black Numbers have teamed up with a host of different sites for exclusive streams and downloads. Head over to Rock Sound to hear/download "The Sound Of Money" right now. Additionally, RCRD LBL premiered "Fireplug" recently. To download an exclusive mp3 for the song, go here. You can also stream the track "Forever Bender" at And don't forget that "Sometimes A Wolf" is still streaming at Absolute Punk as well.
While Banquets’ debut 7", 2010's This Is Our Concern, Dude, was very well-received and showed off a wealth of potential, Top Button, Bottom Shelf simply blows all expectations and pre-conceived notions out of the water. The ten songs that make up the band's debut full-length build and hold the momentum for an incredibly rewarding and all too short 25 minutes. Waiting for some lull or filler to catch your breath is fruitless as the band delivers gem after gem. Of course you can talk of the band’s pedigree, Banquets lead singer Travis Omilian was the original singer for Let Me Run and other members have played in bands such as Outsmarting Simon, Static Radio NJ, The Stand In and The Banner, but all that undersells just how quickly Banquets have grown into their very own exciting entity. No doubt the past experiences served them well but Banquets have upped the ante for all melodic pop/punk rock with Top Button, Bottom Shelf.

The Daytona Beach, FL outfit recently left for a three-week trek through parts of the East Coast, Midwest and Southeast. The band is touring in support of it's debut full-length on Eulogy Recordings (Set Your Goals, Kids Like Us, Unearth), which was released earlier this month (07/05) on CD format. A vinyl version of the album is in the works.

Hailed as Clear Channel’s “New Artist to Watch” – The Young Presidents – are following up their June release of debut album Freedom of Speech, with an extension of tour dates throughout the Southeast. Eager to take the record’s tracks on the road, the band prepares to start travel at the end of July, instruments in hand through select states until September.
The rock trifecta features Jake Hertzog on guitar and vocals, bassist Mitchell Kaneff, and Leon Bibi on the kit. Citing greats like Nirvana, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, and Train as influences, the threesome delivers tracks with a strong Alt-Rock exterior and a core of expertly articulated classic rock sensibilities. Freedom of Speech, which was released on MKM Records/KMG Music, boasts the group’s hit single “Wide Open”. The single serves as the perfect tune to whet appetites, markedly showcasing their keen awareness for stitching modern rock complexities with a throwback to power-trio compositions.
