NOMEANSNO at Lees Palace on April 4th !

Most bands with a three decade career in the meat grinder we call "the record game" would have a press release that spans nearly as many reams of paper as War and Peace. However, due to the threat of litigation and stern tsk-tsk'ing from certain parties, the Canadian trio NoMeansNo prefers to sum up their existence with the following: brothers Rob and John Wright were talked into making music by their mum, who thought it was high time they stopped watching Jonny Quest and making origami pterodactyls. A few things happened, then in 1989 they released the album Wrong, and then some other stuff happened afterwards.
There are some deliberate omissions regarding the period from 1996-2000. The band embraced "glam metal" and that's about all that needs said.
The final release of the 1990s was One, which found the trio slimmed down to a mere three members: Rob, John and newcomer Tom Holliston. The sprawling opus is a magnificent testimonial on the exigency of suburban sprawl and got rave reviews from Architectural Digest Monthly. Ford Pier was rumored to be "unamused".
All Roads Lead to Ausfahrt, their most recent full length featured some songs, as well as a few tunes followed by a single ditty. Audiences roared their approval, particularly in Latvia and Regina.
Now, NoMeansNo has stunned the industry once again by introducing a new format to the music buying public: vinyl. This amazing new invention allows listeners to "spin" their favorite "tunes". NoMeansNo's musical experimentation has resulted in a cleverly titled EP called "Tour EP 1", which apparently is to be followed by "Tour EP 2", not available in your area. NoMeansNo has also embraced the information superhighway by slowly reissuing their previous recording efforts onto such vendors as Amazon, Boomkat and iTunes.
Be sure to catch this ever inventive trio when they come to Toronto, bringing their unique mix of digital and analogue music to your pair of ears.

On Monday April 4: @ Lees Palace
' @ 10:15p w/ 'Metz' @ 9:00p $20.00adv @ Tm-Hs-Rt-ss $23.00 at the door

Half Hearted Hero - Pre-Order New 12" from Animal Style

Running Water, the upcoming six-song 12" from Half Hearted Hero (New Bedford, MA) is now available for pre-order from Animal Style Records (Thrice, Mixtapes, Transit, After The Fall, Daggermouth).
Limited to a pressing of 500 on three colorways (100 orange-red marble / 200 opaque olive green / 200 brown), the vinyl will see an official street date of April 05, 2011. For more info go here.
To celebrate the pre-order, Animal Style and Half Hearted Hero have teamed up with Absolutepunk.net to offer an exclusive stream of Running Water. To listen to the record in its entirety, go here.
Additionally, you can download a free mp3 for the song "Periphery" at the label's bandcamp page.
Recorded by Half Hearted Hero guitarist Clinton Lisboa and mastered by Jason Livermore at The Blasting Room (Rise Against, A Wilhelm Scream, Propagandhi), Running Water is the follow-up to the band's 2009 full-length, Defining. Refining. This latest effort finds the Massachusetts quintet blasting through six cuts of infectious and introspective pop punk while wielding a razor-sharp edge and reveling in a much grittier tone than its peers. With ample energy and hooks galore, Half Hearted Hero tips its proverbial cap to contemporaries such as Transit and The Starting Line, but it also explores varying tempos and unique song structures, giving nods to punk torchbearers such as Small Brown Bike and The Fullblast.
One last note - if you're anywhere near Massachusetts' South Coast this Friday, Half Hearted Hero will be playing its record release show at the Highlander in Acushnet. To see the flyer, go here.

The Strokes - "Hope & Ruin"

THE TREWS’ fourth full-length studio album, Hope & Ruin, due out on The Trews Records on April 12, is a level-raising evolution for the Toronto-based rock band with two gold records, 10 top-10 singles and 800-plus concerts logged. After wrapping up the first leg of touring for 2009's Acoustic – Friends & Total Strangers retrospective, the Trews found themselves with time off and a blank canvas in front of them for the first time in years. The band decided to retreat to Tragically Hip's fabled Bathhouse Studio's, which is a an old converted lake house just outside of Kingston, Ontario.
Recorded live-off-the-floor, they captured lightning in a bottle, resulting in a sound that is raw, electric and igniting. Of course, the ripping rockers that have made front man Colin MacDonald; his brother, guitarist John-Angus; their cousin, drummer Sean Dalton; and long-time friend, bassist Jack Syperek one of Canada’s top live acts are still present with the heavy “The World I Know,” unrelenting “Misery Loves Company” and pummeling “People of the Deer.”
“We haven’t forgotten how to rock, but there’s new ground being covered,” says Colin. The Trews have never made an album in the manner in which they recorded Hope & Ruin, and it’s an album they never could’ve made before now. There’s a certain connection, comfort and intuition that’s needed to write and record in such an off-the-cuff, inspired manner. And that takes years to develop.
As the "Hope & Ruin" single continues to climb up the Active Rock charts in the Trews native Canada (currently at #7), the band is receiving accolades from around the globe. Performer Magazine here in the U.S. claims that "The Trews are, without a doubt, the greatest rock band of their generation" and upon their departure from their Australian tour this month, famous native and rock affectionado Russell Crowe tweeted "Bon Voyage @thetrews hope you make it back to Australia soon. They came, they saw, they rocked"

The Trews will be touring the U.S. this Spring.

BOBBY to Release Album June 21

Founded by Tom Greenberg during his senior year at Bennington College, BOBBY includes fellow classmates Julian Labat, Molly Erin Sarle, Amelia Randall Meath, Roby Moulton, Paolo Menuez (alum of Hampshire College), and Martin Zimmermann. Shortly after graduating, the band all moved into a house together up in Montague, Massachusetts--a tiny rural hamlet hidden away in the woods with little more than a post-office and a convenience store--strictly for the purpose of putting together an album.
Unfettered by the distractions of civilization, and far-removed from their peers, BOBBY gradually took shape in the crucible of isolation. The resulting sonic aberration was deeply suffused with the anxiety, apprehension and ultimately the joy that is the natural by-product of six minds struggling to cohere their individual creativity into a single artistic work.

BOBBY’s sound draws inspiration from this emotional experience, but it is equally influenced by the Gamelan orchestras of Indonesia, the polyrhythmic hand drumming of Yoruba, as well as artists such as Kate Bush, Bjork, Vashti Bunyan and The Books. Their eponymous debut is a lush, full spectrum exploration of frequency and timbrel layering. The album features a multiplicity of acoustic, electric, and lap steel guitars, keyboards, shakers, hand drums, ambient noises, whistles, and gongs, as well as plenty of other sounds. The textures are rich and dense, the precise placement of instruments and pitches gives the work a rare, gorgeous clarity.
The album’s songs range from the soft and sublime, where tender harmonies between Molly Sarle of Mountain Man and Tom Greenberg rest gently above rich textures, as in “Nap Champ” and “Dust Beam”, to the holy-wow, where the arc, shape and density of the song bloom into a cathartic climax, as in “Groggy” and “Tomb Bloom.”
If there is one through line that links most of these twelve individual songs, it is the use of polyrhythm. Just like their sonic layering, BOBBY superimposes multiple meters upon one another, in which each song can be felt in different time signatures. This playful layering of compound and simple meters provides a fulcrum for the sonic textures to balance against, but allowing for a rhythmic elasticity that the typical four on the floor beat fights so hard against.

BOBBY shares members of Mountain Man, Amelia Randall Meath and Molly Erin Sarle. Molly performs on the record, but will only intermit as a touring member. Amelia has taken on the role as the primary touring member of the band

A Benefit Event For Our Friends In Japan

Led by Brionie Garnham and Charlotte Waslyowich of Parlour Salon, the Toronto community has come together to support efforts going to Japan, through the Red Cross. On April 3, 2011, 7:30PM at The Great Hall (1087 Queen Street West), Brionie and Charlotte are hosting A Benefit for Japan, with a bake sale, a silent auction including numerous concert, clothing, film festival and restaurant gift packages and certificates, and a four band line-up, including a surprise headliner.
The absolute shock of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan has been felt worldwide. The whopping 9.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Japan on March 11 which triggered a tsunami was felt across the Pacific coastline - this tragedy's death toll is in the thousands and still climbing. Preceding that on February 11, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake rocked Christchurch, New Zealand with over 400 left dead. These tragedies have left people wondering how they can help.
Here is an opportunity to spend an evening supporting the Red Cross, and their efforts to extend a hand of human compassion and generosity to those affected by the devastating events that recently occurred along the pacific. All are cordially invited to come out and support The Red Cross together at The Great Hall - http://www.thegreathall.ca - on Sunday, April 3rd at 7:30PM.

The evenings event will include a bake sale by the mostly vegan Muffin Yard, a silent auction and tons of raffles, including donated gifts from: Los Valentinas, Cry Wolf Clothing, The Drake Hotel, Dean Davidson, Ashley Winnington-ball, Parlour Salon, Cineplex Theatre Passes, Vans Warped Tour VIP package, Embrace Presents Ticket Pack, Steam Whistle VIP Tour, Collective Concerts, Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival passes, imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival passes, various contributions from musicians across North America that include t-shirts, event tickets, CD's, posters, etc.. as well as crafts and art from local artists, designers and jewelers, and more!

Antillectual - Supporting Boy Sets Fire Tour

ANTILLECTUAL (Nijmegen, Holland) is pleased to announce that it has been confirmed for a supporting slot on the upcoming BOY SETS FIRE reunion tour. The punk trio will be playing a total of 16 shows (06/14 - 07/01) across Europe with the newly reformed hardcore band.
Additionally, Antillectual is touring extensively on its own this Spring and well into Summer. An ten-day tour of Italy begins tomorrow and the band will spend a week in Russia at the end of April. Plenty of other dates scattered throughout as well, including shows with Iron Chic, Bouncing Souls, Polar Bear Club and One Win Choice. Given the band's tireless work ethic, It should be no surprise; Antillectual has spent the majority of the last few months touring the world in support of its incredible new full-length, Start From Scratch.
A truly collaborative effort, Start From Scratch was released in late 2010 on LP and CD (Europe only) by ten different labels: Angry Chuck Records (Russia), Destiny Records (Germany / Austria / Switzerland), Discos Rayados (Spain), Effervescence Records (France), Infected Records (Portugal), Lockjaw Records (UK), Shield Recordings (Benelux), No Reason Records (Italy), 5 Feet Under Records (Denmark) and Square Of Opposition in the States.
If you live overseas, you can purchase a copy from one of the previously mentioned labels, or pick it up directly from the band here or on tour. If you live in the US or want the 12" version, grab it from Square Of Opposition.
Of course, if you'd prefer digital version of Start From Scratch or would simply like to "try before you buy," Antillectual has made the record available as a free / pay-what-you-like download. The rest of the band's discography is also available for download here.

Listen to "Kraken Gaat Door!" (Free mp3)

Unquestionably the trio's most accomplished record to date, Start From Scratch is firmly rooted in the combustible, dynamic punk of the 90s skate scene while incorporating in hints of modern emo, orgcore and even metal. Most strikingly though is how Antillectual has dialed up the unforgettable choruses and infectious melodies exponentially, cranking out twelve passionate, socially and politically charged burners that might be the most addictive songs you'll year all year. Just as importantly, Start From Scratch is a varied, thoughtfully crafted effort; it frames a band skillfully maturing with age yet holding on to the fervor and fire that made the members pick up instruments and start playing punk rock in the first place.

Singer, songwriter and producer, Mike Posner announced today that he will be hitting the road this spring on the “Back to School” tour presented by Oakley, in support of his debut album 31 Minutes To Takeoff (J Records) and his current single “Bow Chicka Wow Wow”(feat. Lil’ Wayne). Kicking off on March 31st at Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn, NY, Posner will be hitting up colleges and venues all across the country until mid-May with support from Kelley James.
Since the release of 31 Minutes To Takeoff in August of 2010, Posner has traveled all over the world promoting his album and his first two smash singles, the multi-platinum breakout hit “Cooler Than Me” and his top 10 follow up “Please Don’t Go”. He was nominated for an American Music Award for Breakthrough Artist and has performed on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, America’s Got Talent, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Lopez Tonight, Live! With Regis & Kelly and The Wendy Williams Show.
Critics have continued to praise Posner and the album, with Rolling Stone saying "Mike Posner is at the head of a new genre..." and praising it's "...big, club-friendly synth hooks". Entertainment Weekly called it "...sly, electro-pop..." and USA Today stated it is "...breezily infectious..."
Posner spent the fall of 2010 on his first headlining club tour, The Up In The Air Tour, produced by Live Nation and sponsored by Karmaloop.com.
In March of 2009, Posner’s first mixtape A Matter of Time (recorded in his dorm room) rose to the #1 position on iTunesU, promptly garnering him the attention of major labels. After signing a deal with J Records that summer, Posner returned to Duke to finish up his course load, all the while beginning work on his debut album, self-releasing his second free mixtape One Foot Out The Door (featuring collaborations with 3Oh!3, Bun B, Kid Cudi, Wale) through iTunesU and rocking shows every weekend at colleges and festivals across the country. 22 year old Mike Posner hails from Southfield, MI and currently resides in Los Angeles, CA. Restorations - New LP Out Digitally NOW!

Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, CSTVT, Look Mexico) is excited to announce that Restorations' highly anticipated Self-Titled debut full-length is now out digitally via iTunes and Bandcamp, where it is also available for full streaming and can be purchased for a special price of $6 for the remainder of March.
Additionally, the 12" vinyl version of the record - which will see an April 19th release from the label - is now available for pre-order. Recorded by Algernon Cadwallader's Joe Reinhart (My Heart To Joy, Monument, Snowing) and mixed by Jonathan Low (Dr. Dog, Danielson, mewithoutYou), the LP will be limited to a pressing of 500 and feature gatefold jackets with art and design by Bruno Guerreiro.
Plenty of other exciting news on the Restorations front as well, particularly the Philadelphia band's recent feature with The Switchboard Sessions. This terrific website has taken a simple concept - providing a forum for great independent bands to perform two songs live over the telephone - and paired it with some of the most thoughtful, well-written interviews this side of the interwebs. The result is charming, intimate and wholly unique. Restorations' session is no different. Check out (and download) the band's telephone renditions of "Nonlocality" and "Canadian Club" and read about the quintet's evolution, its "ah-ha!" moment during the writing process and how these eight exceptional songs pretty much fell into the unbelievably lucky lap of Tiny Engines.
And don't forget that you can still download free mp3s for "Broken Vacuum" and "Neighborhood Song" courtesy of RCRD LBL and Epitonic.com, respectively.
Finally, Restorations will be recording a brand new song for the COMPassion Project, a benefit compilation assembled by Parrot On A Porch Records. All proceeds will go directly to assist with tsunami relief efforts in Japan. Available exclusively at Bandcamp beginning on April 12th, the comp boasts an impressive lineup featuring the likes of Samiam, Jonah Matranga, Chamberlain, J. Robbins, Rival Schools, Codeseven, Frontier(s), Walter Schreifels, Kevin Devine, Joshua, Jamie Woolford, Gracer, Atlantic/Pacific and more.
On Restorations' Self-Titled debut full-length, the Philly quintet creates songs that are layered, tension-building monsters which lean heavily on a rhythm section that could probably knock a hole in the side of a Sherman tank. Still, that never takes away from the band’s ability to craft warm, stirring melodies, enduring hooks and dynamic song structures. Cascading guitars, pulsing waves of reverb and spacey flourishes are held together by Jon Loudon’s raspy-yet-tuneful growl. His delivery transmits confidence, wisdom and a bit of wear and tear – perhaps from years fronting underground DIY heroes Jena Berlin – but he also sings with a soulful, youthful exuberance that feels like he genuinely loves the process of creating music. If you’ve been searching for a thoughtful, nuanced take on punk and indie rock – and all the sub-genres they entail – Restorations might just be your new favorite band.

Jim Mc Turnan and the Kids That Killed the Man FREE DOWNLOAD!

For much of the 2000's Jim McTurnan was co-frontman of the fuzzed-out rock quartet Cat-A-Tac, a band which churned out, "...blissful pop songs that wear a snarl..." according to KEXP, and were championed by Under The Radar magazine as, "...My Bloody Valentine with a few licks of Pete Townshend..."
After Cat-A-Tac fizzled in 2008, McTurnan found himself embracing sunnier, more optimistic sounds. Pre-1964 rock-n-roll inspired much of the song structure and mood which found its way onto Joie De Vivre, McTurnan's 2011 full-length debut. However, the new record is not a retro affair. It's infused with a punk demeanor, and borrows from both garage rock and slacker rock, while remaining at its core, a pop album.
McTurnan assembled his new band, The Kids That Killed The Man, in 2009 with an all-star cast of Denver musicians. Bassist Josh Wambeke is also the singer-guitarist of the space rock outfit Fell, which long resided on the roster of the late Australian psych rock label, Camera Obscura. Drummer John Fate grew up touring in the hardcore scene before landing in Denver and joining an indie pop band. Guitarist Nathan Brasil was John Fate's bandmate in the aforementioned indie pop band and initially joined the Kids as a full-time tambourine player before moving onto guitar.
Jim McTurnan & The Kids That Killed The Man played their first batch of shows in 2009. That first batch included Monolith Festival at Red Rocks alongside the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Phoenix, the Walkmen, and others, as well as CMJ Music Marathon, the main stage at the Denver Post Underground Showcase, and local support for Art Brut and Surfer Blood. 2010 found the band in Josh's basement recording Joie De Vivre and playing more shows. 2011 brings the release of Joie De Vivre and the hope that you, the media gatekeeper and reader of this bio, might like it.

Joie De Vivre is available to all as a free download for a limited time at jimmcturnan.com and jimmcturnan.bandcamp.com.
The album will be released April 26th!

This April, Foo Fighters will be playing songs from Wasting Light, the new album they recorded in Dave Grohl's garage, in the garages of eight lucky fans in eight North American cities.
Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear have teamed with BlackBerry® and local radio stations to create a once in a lifetime opportunity for the ultimate fan to host a Foo Fighters live performance in his or her actual garage for these eight dates only.
Fans who want a shot at making their garage one of these eight intimate venues can either enter the contest directly by explaining, in 25 words or less, why they (and 50 of their friends) deserve to win and then sending in a picture of their garage. For detailed instructions go to www.foofightersgaragetour.com/contest. Listeners of local radio stations will also have a chance to attend the garage show in their town. BlackBerry is also sponsoring a Concert Sweepstakes, in which winners will receive tickets to see the band in concert, an autographed copy of Wasting Light and more. For full details and additional prizes etc., visit www.foofightersgaragetour.com/sweepstakes.

Foo Fighters’ new record Wasting Light, out April 12, 2011 on Roswell/RCA, was recorded entirely on analog tape in the garage of Dave Grohl’s home in California’s San Fernando Valley. Produced by Butch Vig and mixed by Alan Moulder, the no computers/no software back to basics approach has resulted in arguably the strongest and most cohesive effort of the band’s 15-year-plus career: From the opening one-two punch of “Bridge Burning” and lead single “Rope” to the beautifully bipolar “These Days” to stunning guest spots from Bob Mould (“Dear Rosemary”) and Krist Novoselic (“I Should Have Known”), Wasting Light is a singular triumph: a band that has headlined arenas, stadiums and festivals the world over stripping itself down to the bare essentials and coming up with a world class band’s finest hour.

The full list of Foo Fighters Garage Tour Markets and affiliated radio stations are as follows:
April 8 New York (RXP 101.9)
April 13 Washington DC (DC 101)

April 20 Minneapolis (93X Rocks)

One Win Choice - Euro Tour (Apr 01 - 30)

Beginning on April 1st, ONE WIN CHOICE (Philadelphia, PA) will embark on a month-long tour of Europe in support of its latest full-length, CONVEYOR. Label mates Astpai will be joining the band for all shows.
Released on March 01, 2011 by Jump Start Records, the album is available on 12-inch, CD and digital formats. The former is limited to a pressing of 500 on black (100) and black/yellow splatter (400) vinyl. For more info go here or grab a copy from the band at shows. For digital, go to iTunes or Bandcamp, where you can stream the record in its entirety.

You can also download a free mp3 for the song "Frame Your Favorite Pictures."

Finally, if you have a few minutes to spare, check out this three-part video series at Punknews.org entitled "One Win Choice: The Making Of 'Conveyor.'" You can view some great recording footage as well as interviews with the band. Watch Parts I, II and III.
Channeling the ethos and intensity of bands such as Strike Anywhere and Refused, and and combining melodic elements not unlike Rise Against or A Wilhelm Scream, Philly's One Win Choice is a bastion of everything hardcore punk should strive to be. Conveyor burns with an underlying fire and passion, and the term "sonic annihilation" comes to mind more than once during the album's 33 minute run time. Still, this explosive full-length also frames a group of individuals who have grown immensely as songwriters; these 13 tracks are meticulously crafted, underscored by thought-provoking lyrics and a palpable sincerity.

Toronto songwriter Abigail Lapell is proud to announce the launch of her debut full-length album, Great Survivor. The local indie-folk favorite will support the release with a coast-to-coast Canadian tour, playing dates in nine provinces over six weeks.
Drawing from a deep well of folk and indie influences, the new record showcases Abigail’s contagious melodies, evocative lyrics and heart-stopping voice—a combination that has drawn comparisons to early Cat Power, Sandy Denny or a stormier Natalie Merchant. Great Survivor builds upon the stark intimacy of Abigail's early solo efforts with rich harmonies and subtle layers of instrumentation. Recorded by Ohbijou’s Heather Kirby, the album features talented collaborators like Jessica Moore (banjo, vocals), Lisa Bozikovic (piano, vocals), James van Bolhuis (drums), Aaron Lumley (double bass) and Julia Collins (violin).
Previously released only on limited-edition homemade recordings, Abigail’s music first began to earn a following in her former home of Montreal—haunting songs passed around through mix tapes and blogs, eventually finding their way onto CBC radio and college charts across the country. Over the past few years, Abigail has toured extensively in Eastern Canada, been featured at NXNE, Pop Montreal, Winterfolk (Toronto), Sappy Fest (Sackville, NB) and In the Dead of Winter (Halifax), and shared stages with Rae Spoon, tUnE-yArDs, Snailhouse, Ember Swift, Greg MacPherson and Jim Guthrie, among many others. With the official launch of Great Survivor on April 14th and her first major national tour this spring, followed by summer festival dates (TBA), Abigail is poised to reach an even wider audience in 2011.

Following the success of debut single, “Friction” in September 2010, electro-pop artist Adam Tyler continues plans to autograph his name on the scene in permanent ink. In conjunction with Tiger Bay Records, the artist proudly announces the digital release of his next single “I Won’t Let You Go,” one which joins a complete EP due out in July 2011. Highlighting the artist’s undeniable versatility, the track unites his aggressive electro flair with the accessibility of an easy pop tune.
Adam’s adept and electrified sensibility for melody ignites immense prowess as is evident in his upcoming EP. His talent has warranted him several opportunities to work with other masters of their craft, such as the notable producer DeeKay (Sugababes), choreographer Stixx (Eminem), Chris Yates (X Factor) and director Dan Shipton (Dancing On Ice).
While a student at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music, the artist quickly found the confines of a classroom were limiting the kind of stage he was aiming to take. Opting to take a risk, Adam took a departure from his coursework and at the age of 22, it was met with reward. The artist was quickly recruited by the creator of Hollywood Records’ band, Youngstown, for his new act. The Missouri native jumped at the opportunity and relocated to Los Angeles, ultimately yearning to tackle the industry on his own.
Up next for the artist, Adam looks forward to taking his work on the road, with nationwide performances including Los Angeles, New York, and abroad in London this year.

Dada Trash Collage & Bear Ears - "Layers of Ice"

Husband and wife Dada Trash Collage (William Freed) and Bear Ears (Jessica Freed) have teamed up to release their first single entitled "Layers of Ice" from their upcoming LP Ambitious Out Of Control.
After getting hitched last year, the couple has spent much of their time as newlyweds writing music (both seperately and now, together). This record also marks the first collaboration between William Freed and drummer Richard Bell since 2010's Neighbors, who took a hiatus from DDTC during the last record Cool Waves/Bad Days.
The track is night and day - equal parts upbeat and malaise, experimental yet pop.

MP3: Dada Trash Collage and Bears Ears - "Layers of Ice"
You can also check out on their Bandcamp

DDTC and Bear Ears are also gearing up for a self-released 7" in May, which will include two ther tracks from Ambitiout Out Of Control. They are currently raising funds for its release via Kickstarter.

Tony Sly On Tour In Eastern Canada !

For over two decades Tony Sly has made an indelible name for himself as the front man for No Use For A Name, one of pop-punk’s premiere acts, however those close to him also know that Sly’s musical talents extend far beyond the melodic power chords and socially conscious lyrics that he’s pioneered via his career in NUFAN. This fact was made clear to the world with the release of Tony Sly’s solo debut 12 Song Program, a diverse collection of tracks recorded on acoustic guitar that evoke the Pogues more than they do Pennywise and show that Sly’s gift for songwriting transcends genres and classifications, proving that Sly truly is a rock n’ roll Renaissance Man in the purest sense of the phrase.
You’re probably wondering why it took Sly so long to get these songs onto tape, and, frankly, so is he. “This is something I should have done about seven years ago,” Sly replies, citing No Use For A Name’s grueling touring and recording cycle as the reason why it took him so long to find the time to focus on his solo career. “I started writing songs a while back that didn’t really fit the mold of NUFAN and I felt like I wanted to do something different other than punk rock but the timing was never right,” he continues. Once his band had a break following an extensive world tour supporting their ninth full-length album The Feel Good Record Of The Year, Sly finally had the opportunity to focus on the songs that make up 12 Song Program. He immersed himself in these songs and began playing solo shows at local bars to enthusiastic audiences.
Building on the strong response from Tony’s solo performances and his first solo effort 12 Song Program, Tony plans to release his second solo record titled “Sad Bear “coming out this summer on Fat Wreck Chords .
No Use For A Name are working steadily on a new record. There has been some challenges making this happen due to Matt’s health scares resulting in repeat surgeries .Things are looking up now and with the new addition of Boz Riviera on drums (from The Mad Caddies) the band is sure to be back stronger than ever.
In the meantime Tony Sly will be returning to Canada to delight audiences with a more intimate look at what his writing skills have been focusing on currently.
Make sure to catch Tony Sly live with special guests Steve Rawles and Russ Rankin (lead singer from Good Riddance) performing solo material for the first time.

Toronto's Lou Canon set to release Hayden-produced debut album on Hardwood Records.

Toronto-based singer-songwriter Lou Canon is set to release her self-titled debut album on May 10th through Hardwood Records/Universal Music Canada. The ten-track Hayden-produced effort sees the multi-instrumentalist contribute nine self-penned originals and one stellar cover of The Cure's "Close to Me". Download Lou Canon's outstanding "Heart of" here.
Lou Canon is a musician living in Toronto. She teaches for a living and sings for a loving. She once reserved her wild imagination and playfulness for the classroom. Her students were happy, but something was amiss.
Although she continued to teach, her day no longer ended with the bell. She would unravel her bun at the door and spend her nights three stories above street level, in a very special place called Skyscraper National Park. Alongside Canadian musician, Hayden, she created, laughed, lingered, swore, drank tea, drank wine and slowly built her debut album.

COMPILATION AVAILABLE NOW AT http://vstheearthquake.limitedpressing.com FOR MINIMUM $5 DOLLAR DONATION

A collection of bands (including The Wonder Years, Valencia, Title Fight, La Dispute, Man Overboard, Transit and more) have come together to release a compilation of rare tracks to benefit the victims of the earthquake and its after effects in Japan.

The Vs. The Earthquake comp can be purchased at http://vstheearthquake.limitedpressing.com for a minimum $5 donation.

Soupy from The Wonder Years explains, "Last Friday we woke up in Maryland to read the news about the earthquake that struck Northern Japan and as the hours rolled by, things seem to go from awful to, well, worse than awful. News of tsunamis, floods, fires, radiation leaks and more poured in as we sat feeling helpless in the van. The idea struck to maybe text a few of our friends to see if we could get five or six songs together for a short comp to benefit the victims of this tragedy. I think it really speaks to the sense of community we have in this scene that within the two hour drive to Delaware, over 20 bands agreed to be a part of this. The comp is a collection of primarily rare, hard to find or unreleased recordings. The storefront was donated to us by Limited Pressing and currently, Paypal is allowing you to send money to charities without taking any fees. This means that, aside from the standard fee Paypal may take out when money enters an account, 100% of the money will be going to Americares to help the Japanese."

Perry Farrell of JANE'S ADDICTION calls VICTORIAN HALLS' music a "high-strung theatrical sound ... punchy and tight, the sound of Saturday night." With the announcement of their signing to VICTORY, VICTORIAN HALLS have also released an official announcement video, giving new and already rabid fans a taste of what’s to come. Their debut on VICTORY is due out in the coming months.

Miami progressive power pop/rock outfit Jacobs Ladder announces its new Back to Life EP due out April 1st. Already a fixture and fan favorite on the Southeast touring circuit, having played over 550 shows and counting with such bands as Fallout Boy, Forever The Sickest Kids and Bayside, to name a few, Jacobs Ladder is bound for even bigger things with the new recording, produced by Carlos de la Garza (Neon Trees, Reel Big Fish).
Through the band’s relentless touring schedule and killer live set, Jacobs Ladder have managed to make fans out of some of their musical heroes, such as New Found Glory’s Cyrus Bolooki who raves, “Jacobs Ladder has worked hard to establish their unique sound in South Florida, and now look to bring it to the masses. Tight harmonies, catchy melodies, and driving rhythms, that bring a fresh spin to a familiar genre.”
Fresh off a NYC industry showcase at Manhattan’s famed Arlene’s Grocery earlier this month, the 3-piece has just confirmed a hometown EP release party at Churchill’s in Miami on April 8th with support from Arboles Libres, Deaf Poets, Hit Play and others
Jacobs Ladder has launched a pre-order for Back To Life at http://jacobsladder.bandfarm.com. Local fans may also purchase a specially-priced bundle that include tickets to the release show along with the EP.

Northcote 'Gather No Dust'

Victoria-based singer-songwriter Northcote is set to release his brilliant debut album Gather No Dust on April 19th on Black Box. The record was tracked in rural Southern Ontario in November 2010 with producer Dan Weston (Attack in Black, Classified, Shad, City and Colour). While staying committed to a minimal and atmospheric approach to writing and recording, Gather No Dust fittingly ventures into new territory both sonically and lyrically. Download a MP3 of the album's 'Free Tonight' here. See Northcote live at Canadian Music Week on Saturday, March 12th at 1:00AM at The Dakota.
Northcote is the project of Saskatchewan born singer/songwriter Matt Goud. A unique voice in Canada’s broad musical aesthetic, Goud is no stranger to movement having years of North American touring under his belt in an influential post-hardcore group all beginning while in high school. Since the groups disbanding in November of 2008, Goud followed a number of different personal and musical paths, which lead to the arrival of his debut solo effort, an EP entitled Borrowed Chords, Tired Eyes (Black Box, 2009). With the new EP, Goud took to the road and continued to build his audience across Canada while gaining experience along the way. Touring took many forms, including solo in a two-door car or riding backbench in the overflowing van of a headlining act.
The sentiments of Gather No Dust are vast; highs to lows, here’s to there’s. These themes should come as no surprise, as Goud claims the songwriting inspiration occurred during a year that saw him living in Regina SK, Yellowknife NT, Vancouver BC., and now currently in Victoria BC. Goud is joined by John Jeffery (drums), Tyler Schwindt (Guitar/Bass) and John Gerrard (Bass).

Columbia Records will release Bruce Springsteen's "The Promise: The Making of Darkness On The Edge of Town" documentary on DVD and Blu-Ray May 3. The award-winning film will be accompanied by the bonus features "Songs From the Promise," a five-song concert event filmed in Asbury Park, NJ, and "A Conversation With His Fans," an intimate question-and-answer session.
"The Promise: The Making of Darkness On The Edge of Town" was directed by Grammy- and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Thom Zimny. The film premiered on HBO and received a rapturous critical response around the world, including as an official selection, Toronto International Film Festival, The BFI London Film Festival, and The International Rome Film Festival. The Los Angeles Times gave 'The Promise' five stars, while Variety called it "thrilling, a vivid portrait."
The ninety-minute documentary combines never-before-seen footage of Springsteen and the E Street Band shot between 1976 and 1978, including home rehearsals and studio sessions with new interviews with Springsteen, E Street Band members, manager Jon Landau, former-manager Mike Appel, and others closely involved in the making of the record.
The film was also included in the 2010 box set 'The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story,' which Rolling Stone called "extraordinary [and] fascinating" and The Washington Post described as "a revelation."
"Songs From The Promise" was filmed before an audience of approximately sixty fans in December, 2010, in Asbury Park, NJ's historic carousel house. For this one-time concert event, Springsteen and members of the E Street Band lineup (Clarence Clemons, Stevie Van Zandt, Max Weinberg, Roy Bittan, and Gary Tallent) were joined by keyboardist Charles Giordano, a full horn section (Ed Manion, Barry Danielian, Curt Ramm, Clark Gayton and Stan Harrison) and special guest David Lindley, who played violin during the original recording sessions. Directed and edited by Zimny and mixed by Emmy-winner Bob Clearmountain, the concert features the only live E Street Band performances of four tracks from 'The Promise' plus "Blue Christmas."

Songs From The Promise Tracklist:
1. "Racing in the Street ('78)
2. "Gotta Get That Feeling"
3. "Ain't Good Enough For You"
4. "The Promise"
5, "Blue Christmas"

Hosted by music critic and Springsteen biographer Dave Marsh, "A Conversation With His Fans" is an intimate, 22-minute question-and-answer session featuring Springsteen at his most candid. Before a small audience in the studios of Sirius XM's E Street Radio channel, Springsteen discusses the writing and recording of 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' and the decision to release the extensive collection of songs that didn't make the record. "We worked hard on the music that we didn¹t put out," Springsteen tells one fan.
"The nice thing about it is it's still there, it hasn't gone anywhere, and I think we're at a point where it's nice to have the stuff sufficiently see the light of day." Questions are intercut with highlights from the 'The Promise' box set, including the Paramount Theater concert and rare archival footage from 1978.

The DVD and Blu-Ray are available for preorder at Amazon.com and Brucespringsteen.net.
