The Autumn Portrait Release 'The Design Is Over'‏

Music writers, bloggers and music lovers often face issues when trying to describe new bands. Throw some outlandish adjectives together, reference a few other acts and you might come close. But with a few acts, including Vancouver’s latest indie sensation The Autumn Portrait, such hyperbolic statements won’t do the band justice. Out on October 5th, The Design Is Over, the band’s debut full length isn’t just music to be heard: it’s a rich, empowering feeling that has to be captured.
With the aid of producer Tom Dobrzanski (Said The Whale, We Are The City, The Zolas) the three members of The Autumn Portrait have managed to create a vast, layered sonic landscape that is clearly larger than the sum of its parts. Indie rock hasn’t sounded this grand and emotionally stirring in quite some time; from the guiltless charge of "The City" to standout tracks "Jealous," the album’s anthemic opener and "Awake" which captures a nostalgic liveliness all in it’s own, The Design Is Over doesn’t grab you so much as it entices you. Lead singer and songwriter Freddie Mojallal is a fearless creator, with tracks that feature radio-ready hooks with an intense sense of wonderment.
"Welcome To The Night" captures the band’s signature groove, with building crescendos atop layers of a precise indie swing. And album closer ‘The Light’ showcases the band’s softer side. There is a range within The Design Is Over that signifies a band that is not only creatively juiced, but mature enough to capture emotions with alarming ease.
Now is the time to be part of The Autumn Portrait and their sweeping debut, The Design Is Over. It won’t be long until music lovers everywhere will try desperately to describe this band, but ultimately come up short. Better to listen, and let that empowering feeling do its thing.
