Israel Cannan - Walk

Some might call it a rite of passage or coming of age. Some, a boys’ own adventure. Whatever it was, it was a musician’s inspirational and personal journey that saw him cross a continent...
In February of 2010, singer/songwriter Israel Cannan left his home on the East Coast of New South Wales to travel around Australia, creating, inspiring and promoting as he went.
At the early age of 18 Israel released his first EP and after surviving the ups and downs of the industry including successful tours and radio attention, Cannan wanted to go back to basics. The corporate industry didn’t nourish the soul and he decided to take his next offering to the people organically, showing them his music face to face on the street and learning more about himself in the process.
Completing his debut album “Walk” on which he wrote, engineered and played all the instruments on, Israel strapped his guitar to his back and set off in an old van with a friend by his side to film the experience and share his journey with the world.
Driving through every state in Australia and visiting some of the most remote places on Earth living only off money from busking, Cannan spent months playing for locals and handing out free singles from the album to people on street corners all over the country.
Israel said of his journey: "I have never wanted to wait around for some elusive big break that may or may not come. There is a whole world of people out there that will connect with what I do, I just have to find them..."
What ensued was an amazing journey, both physically and personally for Israel as his album “Walk” was given birth to in the hearts and minds of the people he met. Documenting his journey through a series of 22 video journal entries posted to YouTube, Israel reunited with his family in September, coinciding with the worldwide release of “Walk” through his own Poets Corner Records.

"Walk" is out now throughout the world and parts of his journey are available to watch here:

The album is available throughout the world, digitally over itunes and physical copies are available via his website

Electrorock outfit Raggedy Angry will hit the road this November supporting industrial legends Front Line Assembly on their North American tour, immediately following a jaunt around the UK opening for The Birthday Massacre. Also on the tour roster are Unter Null and Angelspit.
Raggedy Angry's new album, How I Learned to Love Our Robot Overlords, is the band's first release on Danse Macabre Records in Europe and the second Raggedy Angry album to be mixed by industrial mastermind Dave "Rave" Ogilvie (Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson). It finds the Toronto-based electro-rock quintet narrowing in on a sound that started developing on the previous album, Pestilence: synth-heavy, raw and aggressive, yet tight and hooky as Hell. Ogilvie was hooked by Raggedy Angry's mix of crunchy riffs and electronic hooks after hearing their 2007 debut Take Me, Break Me, Make Me Pretty.
How I Learned to Love Our Robot Overlords will also be the band's first record with their new North American record label, Synthetic Sounds. Synthetic Sounds is a Vancouver-based industrial and alternative label whose roster also includes Vancouver cyberpunks Left Spine Down, Edmonton tribal industrial dance outfit iVardensphere and Regina's electro-rockers the Rabid Whole. After hearing just a couple of songs from Raggedy Angry's MySpace, Synthetic founder Mark Sommer insisted on working with Raggedy Angry. The album hits the streets in North America on October 12th, 2010 with iTunes and Amazon MP3 sales starting worldwide on October 1st to coincide with the European Release.
If you want to be among the first to get your hands on the new record, presales are now available through the band's online store with Kill the 8 at - all pre-ordered CDs will be shipped on October 12th.
Wherever they go, however they are heard, Raggedy Angry are worming their way into fan's hearts and minds and taking no prisoners. Listen to the new single and new track samples at

Infantree "Water" MP3

Los Angeles-based quartet Infantree are offering up yet another free MP3 from their debut full length Would Work - out now through Vapor Records. This week's choice is "Water," which you can download at the link below.
"Water", written by Alex Vojdani and Matt Kronish flows from the views of two cocksure young men as they experience the grim truths of life. These views sonically manifest themselves as a dramatic progression of moods and realizations. Showing their folksy roots, the instrumentation is kept simple almost deliberately to help communicate the message in the vocals. This is the first song that Infantree wrote, and is fittingly the opening song on Would Work. "It even predates the band name," says Alex. "I didn't even have the banjo!" adds Matt.

New Jersey/New York’s ILL NIÑO is pleased to announce the release of their highly-anticipated VICTORY RECORDS debut, Dead New World, on October 26th, 2010. The album is self produced with co-production coming from Clint Lowery (Sevendust) and Sahaj Ticotin (RA) and mixed by Eddie Wohl (36 Crazyfists, Anthrax, Smile Empty Soul). Dead New World also serves as the follow up to the band’s critically-acclaimed 2008 release, Enigma.
See above for the newly released album art, illustrated by Tim Butler of XIII Designs (Disturbed, Slipknot, Metallica, Slayer, Michael Jackson). “It was our pleasure to work with Tim Butler, who designed ILL NIÑO’s Dead New World CD cover,” states drummer Dave Chavarri. “We wanted to have a tribal ethnic looking cover, and Tim's recreation design of a picture of three South American shrunken heads was everything we wanted. The Dead New World cover definitely touches on our ethnic roots and history.”
To date, ILL NIÑO has sold more than 500,000 albums in the United States alone, and over 1 Million albums worldwide. The band has shared the stage with the likes of Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Disturbed, Guns N’ Roses, and more! The band plans to embark on a full United States tour this fall, and will head into Asia and South America by the end of 2010! Stay tuned for more tour updates on ILL NIÑO!
ILL NIÑO’s Latin roots run bloody and deep. Their original and refreshing sound covers the gamut of musical influences, including melodic vocals, bilingual lyrics, flamenco guitars, tribal drums, Latin percussion, and salsa-infused bass lines, all while providing a pummeling dose of modern hard rock and metal. ILL NIÑO formed in late 1999 and became the epitome of Latin metal in 2001 with their monster debut album, Revolution, Revolucion. Strong airplay for their first single ‘What Comes Around’ and slots on both Ozzfest, and Jägermeister tours in 2002, helped the album sell nearly 430,000 units worldwide.
In 2003 ILL NIÑO returned with their sophomore release Confession and managed to surpass their debut sales, selling over 500,000 copies worldwide. The success of Confession also spawned the top 10 single ‘How Can I Live’, which became the featured single on the Freddy vs. Jason soundtrack and film. Awaiting the arrival of One Nation Underground in 2005, and equipped with the highly-acclaimed single ‘What You Deserve’, ILL NIÑO landed the #1 Most Added track at Active Rock radio, four weeks prior to the album’s release!

ILL NIÑO shows no signs of slowing down with their plans to dominate and epitomize the forefront of true Latin metal. For more information on ILL NIÑO, please visit these websites:

As Cartoon Network recently announced, new episodes of their hit show Destroy Build Destroy, hosted by Andrew W.K., will premiere October 6 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT. Andrew W.K. serves as the master of the mayhem as two teams, with the guidance and assistance of professionals, compete by destroying large structures using wrecking balls, human destroyers and real explosions. Each week brings new challenges to build from the debris, with strategy, wits and teamwork determining which team’s creation out-performs the other. Destroy Build Destroy was created by Dan Taberski and produced by Idiot Box & Mess Media. Dan Taberski and Scott Messick are executive producers for the series.
Andrew W.K. states, "I'm so psyched about this new season of DBD! We really went bigger and better than ever. I love these new episodes. The team members and I always have so much fun, but this time we really went over the top. It's super-destructivity! And super-buildtacular! The new season has even higher levels of insanity, originality, teamwork, and of course, massive explosions! Get ready!"

EDISUN’s self-titled album was 5 years in the making – 4 ½ of those years spent on the road, playing for American troops abroad – and is proving worth the extended wait! In stores TODAY – September 28, 2010 – EDISUN (FOF Entertainment/EMI) was produced by Claude Villani, a long-time collaborator, and mixed at NRG Studios in Los Angeles by Jay Baumgardner. The band created an aurally rich, musically diverse record that reflects the universal hunger, creativity and vulnerability of youth.
EDISUN’s wildly eclectic self-titled debut is passionate and euphoric, brimming with energy, attitude, melody and dynamics. “Wide Wake” kicks off the disc with a rhythm that ebbs and flows like the ocean at high tide and a guitar line that cuts through the vocals like barbed wire. “Right Beside You” builds from delicate strumming and ringing guitar tones into a shower of yearning vocals and cascading Beatlesy harmonies. And “To Die For” combines a sinuous, distorted blues riff from guitarist Jonathan Svec (ex- Splendor) and a deep, echoing bass line into a churning slab of molten volume heightened by vocalist Ethan Isaac’s impacting tenor vibrato. Isaac adds his own explanation, “‘Wide Wake’ and ‘Too Pretty,’ are good time rock and roll / Saturday night party songs. Our first single, ‘Medicate,’ is about how they make a pill for everything these days. You can feel pretty much any way you want just by medicating. Simply put, it is a call to take action and not just try to escape your problems.”
Upon wrapping up their summer tour with label mates- Smile Empty Soul, the band shot the video for “Medicate”, directed by Devin Dehaven (Papa Roach, Smile Empty Soul, Everlast) at the Salton Sea in Southern California. OUTLAW star, Jesse Bradford filmed a cameo for the clip last week.

THE SLEEPING To Release New Album This Tuesday

The shores of Long Island, NY have been known for producing some of the most influential names in rock. Taking Back Sunday, Brand New and many others have been born into notoriety out of that scene. Just as it looked like all hope was lost and every band was becoming faded carbon copies of one another, The Sleeping came along and shook things up by putting sincerity and originality back into underground rock.
After self-releasing their first full length album Believe What We Tell You (OneDaySavior, 2004), Chicago’s Victory Records immediately took notice of the band and their ever growing fan base and hard work ethic. Shortly thereafter, the label signed The Sleeping to its roster. Since 2004, the band has released two other albums (Questions And Answers & What It Takes) and solidified themselves as one of the hardest working tour acts performing with everyone from A Day To Remember, Hollywood Undead, Atreyu, Taking Back Sunday, Saosin, Reliant K, Plain White T’s, Senses Fail, Hawthorne Heights and countless others.
This Tuesday, September 28th, the band will release their fourth album, The Big Deep, on Victory Records. The album is a major leap forward for the band, and lead singer Douglas Robinson couldn’t be more thrilled with the results.
“A lot of what makes The Big Deep different from our other releases is the fact that when we approached this record we approached it with no expectations other than wanting to improve ourselves, not only musically, but individually as well,” stated Robinson. “We were all facing major changes in our lives and we wanted this record to be an in your face rock album that digs directly under your skin. In my mind, The Big Deep is for everyone who has been through it all and still fighting to get it right.”
The band also found their writing for this record turning even more personal than they had in the past. “Lyrically, songs like ‘Oh, Gloria’, which is about my mother, show how personal this record is for me. I've always been personal on all of our records while giving the listener a chance to relate. This time I did the same thing but dove into it far deeper. The last year and a half of my life is all on this record. I want the listener to hear that, but also be able to connect with the material on its own.”
As always, The Sleeping will be hitting the road in support of their new album with upcoming shows with Finger Eleven, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Tides Of Man and PM Today. A full current tour schedule is listed below.

Indie Rockers, THORCRAFT COBRA, ready to release EP

Canadian cold meets California cool on The Thorcraft Cobra EP. This creative, LA-based duo put their love for melody and some sweet old amplifiers to work to craft some engaging and heartfelt tunes.
Billy Zimmer (guitar/bass/vocals) and Tammy Glover (drums/background vocals) first met in previous projects while they were on the same label–the now defunct, but influential, Permanent Press Recordings. The two musicians always hatched plans to record together and, after a prolonged gestation (with Billy biding his time while Tammy toured the world and recorded with brothers Ron and Russell Mael, aka Sparks), Thorcraft Cobra finally came into being.
The name is unusual and evocative and comes from, of all things, Billy’s love of Vintage amplifiers. “I was telling Tammy about this Thorcraft Cobra amp I was using to record and she said ‘That should be the name of the band.’ I was thrown off a bit, but when I thought about it, I knew she was right,” he said. Billy’s collection is not limited to the primary amp used in the recording (that is featured on the cover of the EP). He adds “I also have a vintage Hiwatt Custom 100 - the official amp of tinnitus (wear earplugs kids) - and a sweet 30th Anniversary reissue AC30 Vox that I have been told was used by Gilby Clarke on the G n’ R Use Your Illusion tour. It has a number 15 stenciled on the back!”
With a host of special guests - including Tammy’s Sparks bandmate Russell Mael, and Sabrosa Purr’s Will Love - The Thorcraft Cobra EP touches on all manner of musical landscapes in a brief yet rewarding 20 minutes. “The song ‘True Love’ resonated with me because we live in LA and I’m surrounded by so many boys who resist commitment,” says Tammy. “For me, those connections have only added depth and richness to my life. So, I hear a melancholy in that song that means something different to me than it does to Billy.” She adds “I also thought the lyric, ‘Up in the hills, the air is clear. I can see downtown and the sea from here,’ was a beautiful way to write about Laurel Canyon. A lot of people have written music or been inspired by that area and I loved the image. It calls up making the record and seeing the sun go down over the canyon.”
A standout track for many listeners is the anthemic “Party Clock.” “It’s about being in a club in your 30’s and seeing all those 22 year old girls and not being able to completely relate to them, but still wanting to… Well, they just look great.” says Billy. With his trademark sardonic delivery, Billy says of the theme for “I’m Not Sorry,” “It’s just your run of the mill boring tale of Maxim models, cocaine, sex toys and the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Department. I don’t think you’d believe me if I told you the full story.”
Select dates are being set up throughout the winter, so fans can experience the EP live. “I love playing live,” explains Tammy. “I love the ritual of setting up the drums, the rhythm of touring and living in the bubble of playing music. It’s a self-contained ecosystem with just enough randomness (the audience!) to keep it fresh every night.” Billy and Tammy also plan to have exclusive online concerts for fans very soon via

Neil Young Brings Le Noise

Yes, it's true...Neil Young is releasing brand-new solo album, Le Noise, Sept 28th on Reprise Records. The eight-song album is a collaboration between the acclaimed rock icon and musician/songwriter/producer Daniel Lanois, known for his work with U2, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, The Neville Brothers and many others.
Young and Lanois have crossed paths musically over the course of many years (Lanois’ performances at Young’s Bridge School Benefit Concert and Young’s performance at Farm Aid when Lanois was Willie Nelson’s music director) but this is the first time the two have recorded together.
Recorded in Lanois’ home in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles, Le Noise features Young on acoustic and electric guitars with Lanois adding his trademark sonic textures, creating one of the most sonically arresting albums Young has ever recorded. No band, no overdubs, just “a man on a stool and me doing a nice job on the recording,” as Lanois puts it.
Le Noise will be released in several formats, including standard CD, vinyl, digital download, and as a deluxe CD/DVD. The DVD portion, shot by cinematographer Adam Vollick, will feature eight black and white films of Young performing each song solo on acoustic and electric guitar at Lanois' home.

Blending elements of punk, Avant Garde, free jazz, ska, surf, and that funky “je ne sais quoi” possessed by many Japanese girl bands, TsuShiMaMiRe consists of Yayoi (bass), Mari (guitar and vocals), and Mizue (drums).
The band was formed in 1999 when the girls were still in college.
Known to many fans through their collaboration with Cartoon Network’s popular television series, Powerpuff Girls on their mini album, Six Mix Girls, TsuShimamire have embarked on six US tours with over 150 live shows performed in the states to date, including an appearance at SXSW.
Whereas Japanese punk bands often prefer to include sing-along, 50s style elements in their songs, TsuShiMaMiRe appears to be informed more by punk, noise, and jazz, and the guitar and bass often engage in wild riff interplay, lending the music a welcome spaciousness that invites repeat listens. Lyrical content is, as we have come to expect from Japanese girl bands, way out there, ranging from songs about how fish paste feels when it is cooked (“Camaboco”) to an imaginary conversation between a newborn baby and its mother (“Pregnant Fantasy”).
TSMMR’s second full-length album, Sex on the Beach, was just released in the states through Good Charamel Records, the indie label run by Robby Takac of Goo Goo Dolls.
Prepare to experience another chapter in the crazy, frenetic world of TsuShiMaMiRe as the band gears up for their upcoming U.S. tour (see dates below.)
TSMMR also contribute two tracks to Good Charamel’s I Love J-Rock compilation where they appear alongside Shonen Knife, LAZYgunsBRISKY, Molice and DJ Sashimi. I Love J-Rock is available now.

The Autumn Portrait Release 'The Design Is Over'‏

Music writers, bloggers and music lovers often face issues when trying to describe new bands. Throw some outlandish adjectives together, reference a few other acts and you might come close. But with a few acts, including Vancouver’s latest indie sensation The Autumn Portrait, such hyperbolic statements won’t do the band justice. Out on October 5th, The Design Is Over, the band’s debut full length isn’t just music to be heard: it’s a rich, empowering feeling that has to be captured.
With the aid of producer Tom Dobrzanski (Said The Whale, We Are The City, The Zolas) the three members of The Autumn Portrait have managed to create a vast, layered sonic landscape that is clearly larger than the sum of its parts. Indie rock hasn’t sounded this grand and emotionally stirring in quite some time; from the guiltless charge of "The City" to standout tracks "Jealous," the album’s anthemic opener and "Awake" which captures a nostalgic liveliness all in it’s own, The Design Is Over doesn’t grab you so much as it entices you. Lead singer and songwriter Freddie Mojallal is a fearless creator, with tracks that feature radio-ready hooks with an intense sense of wonderment.
"Welcome To The Night" captures the band’s signature groove, with building crescendos atop layers of a precise indie swing. And album closer ‘The Light’ showcases the band’s softer side. There is a range within The Design Is Over that signifies a band that is not only creatively juiced, but mature enough to capture emotions with alarming ease.
Now is the time to be part of The Autumn Portrait and their sweeping debut, The Design Is Over. It won’t be long until music lovers everywhere will try desperately to describe this band, but ultimately come up short. Better to listen, and let that empowering feeling do its thing.

Sarah Saturday of Gardening, Not Architecture Launches Fundraiser for Fall North American Tour

SARAH SATURDAY can't stay in one place for very long. After selling and donating most of her possessions in February, and moving into a storage space with only a PO box for an address, she has been paving the way for independent, do-it-yourself musicians everywhere with non-stop touring, innovative ideas, and die-hard work ethic. After a successful Canadian tour in the spring and performing on this year's entire VANS WARPED TOUR, she is ready to take her nom do rock GARDENING, NOT ARCHITECTURE on the road again. This time, Sarah will tackle a 60-date North American tour that she is co-booking with independent Canadian booking agency UNDERGROUND OPERATIONS.
In addition to hauling her bass, laptop, and homemade LED light wall around the continent, playing her "ethereal electronic power-pop" for audiences in small clubs and living rooms, Saturday is also using her platform as a respected emerging artist in the underground music community to promote her do-it-yourself based philosophy, EARN IT YOURSELF, and its online community EARNITYOURSELF.COM. Through guest speaker appearances in high schools, one-on-one consultations at her shows, and "scene meet-ups" at every day of this summer's Warped Tour, Sarah Saturday is inspiring individuals everywhere to take their passion into their own hands, and to pursue their goals using an approach based on integrity, honesty, and hard work.
In preparation for the second annual GARDENING, NOT ARCHITECTURE fall tour, Sarah is calling on fans and music supporters to donate to a "tour fundraiser" in exchange for limited edition, handmade merchandise, "official sponsor" title status of each tour date, plus permanent status as an official sponsor of Gardening, Not Architecture on her website. In addition to raising funds to buy a car and pay for gas, food, and other needs for the tour, the fundraiser is being held in honor of Saturday's friend who passed away in a tragic car accident this past summer. Saturday will be donating 10% of all proceeds to Cocoon House -- a center for homeless and at-risk youths where Saturday's friend was a social worker.
Available packages in the fundraiser include: handmade, personalized postcards with a handwritten message from Sarah for $5; individual tour date sponsorship for $10 per show; limited edition tee shirts (donated by Othello Industries) for $25; customized flash drive wristbands containing a remix EP, live show recording, new music video and other digital downloads for $30; one of ten custom signed/numbered paintings made by Sarah for $40; limited edition signed/numbered posters (donated by Verdilak) for $50; and 11x14 prints of original photos from the two different album covers, signed/numbered by the photographers for $150.

The GARDENING, NOT ARCHITECTURE fall tour launches in Hollywood, CA on October 1 at Crane’s Tavern. For the complete list of tour dates, visit

WELCOME TO THE FANTAZZ! -- Self-Titled Debut Album Available On October 14

Every once in a while, a group or artist comes along and treats us all to a carnival ride of musical fun. FANTAZZMO is just that ride! Led by guitarist/vocalist Sergio Bedolla, the band’s 70’s-esque sound ranges in style from rock, pop and R&B to jazz, funk and hip-hop. Fantazzmo I: Enter the Fantazzwill be released on October 14 and available through all major digital retail outlets.
As an enthusiast of all music, Bedolla takes his inspiration from such rock legends as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin while acknowledging the likes of 311, Sublime and Rage Against the Machine. While not wanting to commit to one style of music, Bedolla has created a rock n’ roll alter ego: FANTAZZMO creating a diverse musical palate on Enter the Fantazz, ranging in style from rock and pop to R&B, from jazz to funk and hip-hop. Bedolla’s alter ego, FANTAZZMO is one of the most versatile musical units heard today.
Many fans will remember Bedolla from his days with popular L.A.-based band, Anima/Idle, who earned their hard-hitting reputation while playing countless shows along Hollywood’s Sunset Strip. They garnered national acclaim after they were featured in Spin Magazine, earning them the opening spot for Blink-182. After Bedolla’s departure from the band, due to personal reasons, Bedolla eventually rekindled his relationship with the members of Anima/Idle and found that all the magic he had shared with his bandmates was still there. Capitalizing on his success with bassist Rodax from his Anima/Idle days and alongside producer Tone (Green Day, Santana, Monte Negro), renowned drummer Randy Cooke (Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Hicks), Bedolla hit Los Angeles’ Tonality and Stagg St. Studios to record tracks for Fantazzmo I: Enter the Fantazz.
FANTAZZMO courageously explores every angle of songwriting and instrumental ability. Bedolla’s writing prowess with the first single, “Superman,” embraces psychedelic rock and funk in a unique way, with lyrics about lust and love. “This song was just goin’ for it! I can’t help but be one of the billions of men who think about women and sex all of the time,” explains Bedolla. Taking cues from rap and hip-hop, Bedolla’s alt-rock has a similar energy and honesty, which he demonstrates throughout the album. “I Know You’re Mine” lyrically exposes Bedolla’s process in becoming a jack-of-all-trades, and fully embraces a funk/groove feel, offering balance and harmony to the album. “I was spread thin, giving all I possibly could to my family, work and the band,” Bedolla recalls, “I had to face my fears and take a leap.” Following his cue, everyone can climb aboard this musical rollercoaster of fun that isFANTAZZMO, just take the leap, hold on tight, and enjoy!

Fantazzmo I: Enter the Fantazz track listing:
1. Superman
2. I Know You’re Mine
3. Drown Your Lies
4. She Really Likes
5. We Are Waiting For You
6. Eternal Abyss (Instrumental)
7. Souls On Ice
8. Reciprocity
9. What You Doin To Me
10. Always Something
11. Fear In Me
12. Cancion De La Gitana (Instrumental)

TUMBLEDOWN wants to knock one back with their fans and celebrate the release of their new album, Empty Bottle via End Sounds on October 26. The rock & roll sounds of frontman Mike Herrera (MxPx, Arthur) and the band have never been more electric, and rightly so, Empty Bottle is a perfect display of that energy.
Beginning today, fans can pre-order the new album Empty Bottle, produced by Mike Herrera, through for a special low price. A limited edition LP version of Empty Bottle, also available on October 26 and features the same track listing but varied artwork, will be exclusively available through the label’s site, the band’s website, and from the band at shows. Only 500 copies of the LP will be available with 100 pressed in special white vinyl. Each purchase of the vinyl album will come with a digital download of the entire album as well.
After a relentless 2009 in which the band released their self-titled debut and a live album entitled, Live In Tulsa, in addition to touring in support of both, TUMBLEDOWN was ready to get back into the studio to start work on Empty Bottle.
The music of Tumbledown takes that sepia-tinged image of Americana and sends it hurtling into the present, with the help of some punk-inflected riffs and pure rock & roll attitude. All of the album’s songs written on the road, the characters in Herrera’s songs drink to forget; they ask for a reason to stay in town without really expecting to get one; they look at the madness around them and wonder whether it’s them or the rest of the world that’s gone crazy.
“I want to paint those colors that they've been missing but never knew were missing until they heard them on this new record and now life is never the same after that,” Herrera explains. “We have a good time each time we perform and we want our fans to have the same reaction while listening.”
On Empty Bottle’s first single, “Arrested in El Paso Blues”, Herrera accompanied by Jack Parker on guitar and brothers Marshall and Harley Trotland on standup bass and drums, respectively, sings about country and roots music staples – drinking, fighting, gambling, ladies of the night and brushes with the law. From the full-frontal cowpunk attack of the opening cut, “Places In This Town,” where the narrator braves harm to body and soul but still finds strength to forge ahead, to closing track “Not Hung Over,” a classic morning-after-madness tale of a dizzy-headed drinking man’s denial, Empty Bottle offers an image of Americana that’s as true, tragic, tumultuous, and tantalizing.
In celebration, the band will embark on a month long tour, kicking off in their hometown of Bremerton, WA with a Halloween-themed CD release party at Winterland. The tour will continue through the last week of November. More special promotions and International release dates are to be announced within the coming weeks.

Strategies Against Architecture IV is a double disc release including material from the band’s deeply symbolic appearance at Berlin’s Palast der Republik - the former seat of power of the German Democratic Republik, featuring The Social Choir of 100 supporter voices; live recordings such as YouMe & MeYou (from Vienna); Bertolt Brecht Und Der Weltempfänger (featuring “a roll of gaffer tape descending a staircase”) as well as material from the “Musterhaus” series (a collection of very limited edition experimental albums that were available exclusively via the band’s website).
Einstürzende Neubauten’s 30th anniversary will be celebrated with a tour through Europe and the US. Two shows will be performed in each, select city at different venues that are significant to the band. A concert will be played the first night with the second night billed as ‘An Evening With Einstürzende Neubauten’. For this show, the band will present the audience with a mixed program of films, solo shows, guests and friends including a shorter concert performance of material that has rarely or never been played live.

Dar Williams' Many Great Companions

Dar Williams is getting ready to release her eighth studio album, Many Great Companions via Razor & Tie on October 12th.
If you're not familiar with Dar, it's my pleasure to introduce to you one of the most respected singer-songwriters of her generation. After attending Wesleyan University, Dar spent 10 years performing at coffee houses in the artistic town of Northampton, Massachusetts before self-releasing her first album, The Honesty Room in 1995.
Many Great Companions is a 2-disc release. Disc 1, Songs Revisited With Guitar and a Few Friends is a collection of 12 Dar Williams classics performed acoustically. She’s joined by several fellow musicians and friends on the new versions, including Sean and Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patty Larkin, Motherlode, and Gary Louris of the Jayhawks, who also produced the album.
The bonus disc, Best of Dar Williams, is not just a compilation, but rather a journey through Dar’s career, following Dar as she transforms from a folk singer just starting out to the seasoned musician she is today.

Meet Your Makers at the BUST Magazine Craftacular at the World Maker Faire

This year for the very first time, on September 25th and 26th, the BUST Magazine Craftacular will be held outdoors at the World's Fairgrounds in Queens, NY when it joins the World Maker Faire, which is debuting on the East Coast. In addition to over 100 crafty vendors, the event will offer a line-up of amazing DJs, outdoor lounges and stitching areas, food from around the city, drinks, free raffle drawings, prizes and lots of fun.
"The Maker Faire has established itself as the premier creative festival on the West Coast, and we're so excited to join forces with them here in New York," said Debbie Stoller, founder of the BUST Magazine Craftacular and Editor-in-Chief of BUST Magazine. "The BUST Magazine Craftacular will give visitors an opportunity not only to meet artists and crafters who are doing some of the most inspiring work imaginable, but also to try their hand at some crafting themselves." Stoller, who is also the author of the bestselling "Stitch 'n Bitch" series of knitting and crochet books, will be onsite making her own crafts, signing books, and interacting with fair-goers.
Launched six years ago in Brooklyn, NY, the BUST Magazine Craftacular offers shoppers access to world-class indie vendors selling jewelry, art, home dcor, t-shirts, knitwear, bags and any other handmade item imaginable, and has quickly grown to be the largest indie holiday craft sale in New York City. In the past few years it has expanded to include annual events in Los Angeles and London, and was recently awarded Folio Magazine's prestigious Gold FAME Award for Best Special Event, as well as the Grand FAME Award for Best Overall Event.
The new outdoor venue brings a number of new attractions, including a "Stitch 'n BUST" area. Here, participants can chill out at picnic tables and blankets, working on their own projects or using the materials provided by event sponsorsincluding Sublime Stitching embroidery kits and tubs full of Stitch Nation by Debbie Stoller yarn, donated by Red Heart. In addition, there will be an assortment of BUST issues that visitors can read and take home.
The World Maker Faire, started by MAKE Magazine, has been a popular forum for do-it-yourself science and technology lovers to showcase their inventions and creations. Its partnership with BUST was an easy decision. "The BUST Magazine Craftacular is a trailblazer in DIY crafting," said Sherry Huss, director of Maker Faire. "BUST's Craftaculars are legendary and trend-setting, making them the perfect, like-minded partner for World Maker Faire."
The World Maker Faire is open to the public Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 10am 7pm and on Sunday, September 26, 2010 from 10am 6pm. Ticket prices include admission to the BUST Craftacular, World Maker Faire and the New York Hall of Science. Tickets are $25 for adults (18-61), $10 for youth (2-17), $20 for seniors (62+), and $15 for students with a valid ID.

Animal Nation - Basti Made Me Do It! Tour‏

They’ve been called everything from indie-hop to inteli-hip-hop, and now they’re ready to take their alarmingly aware live set on the road. Animal Nation, the acclaimed duo consisting of Mike Armitage and Garnet Clare have always maintained a heightened sense of focus throughout their careers, and now the rest of the country is about to be exposed to Animal Nation on their first cross-Canada tour. Mothers, let your daughters out into the night: they’ll be richer for hearing these two.
Fresh off the release of Basti Made Me Do It! Armitage and Clare are poised to bring their largely underground sound to the forefront, premiering such innovative tracks as the swaying sing-a-long ‘Hey Mr. Basti!’ or the spacey, Four Tet inspired groove of ‘I Think I’ve Been Here Before’ which serves to highlight the duo’s inspired and often eclectic take on the world.
Animal Nation’s latest wouldn’t have been possible without the imported talents of German producer Sebastian (Basti) Hochstein, whose fingerprints are found all over the record. Thinking Basti would want to check out the offerings of their native British Columbia, Mike and Garnet prepared for a week of hikes, bikes, and sights and wound up spending the trip writing tracks to satisfy Basti's never-ending lust for new and exciting music. We can hear both the influence of Basti and British Columbia in spades; there is a joyous, outward feel to the record which will only be augmented throughout their live sets.
Animal Nation's first cross-Canada tour delivers a duo which doesn't just create music to be heard, but celebrates music to live to. And live life fully. After a series of gigs opening for hip-hop legends such as Buck 65 and Jully Black, Animal Nation are ready for the road, and ready for both old fans and new ears alike. T hey've played the 2010 Winter Olympics, the Pemberton Festival and Canada Day on Parliament Hill. It'd be tough to find an act more primed for the road; with a host of gigs across the country, including 7 within their native British Columbia, now is the time to become a citizen of Animal Nation.

Yaz: "Get Set" iTunes Exclusive | Reconnected Live Out 9/28

YAZ release RECONNECTED LIVE on September 28th 2010 on double CD, limited edition hardback with a 32-page booklet and download.
The iTunes release features an exclusive track, the previously unreleased and much sought after “Get Set”, which was originally recorded in 1983 and used as the theme to the BBC Children's TV show 'Get Set For Summer'.
RECONNECTED LIVE documents one of pop’s most anticipated tours: in the summer of 2008 Vince Clarke & Alison Moyet reunited for the first time in over 25 years. The Times raved: “Clarke has unobtrusively retooled the band’s music for the digital age, making their vintage 1980s synthesizer ditties sound crisp, fluid and timeless” while The Guardian noted, “Yazoo’s first tour in 26 years finds the chemistry behind their smash hits unchanged.”
RECONNECTED LIVE, produced by Yaz, recorded by Martin Hildred and mixed by Vince Clarke features classic tracks from Yaz’s albums ‘Upstairs At Eric’s’ and ‘You And Me Both’; including Only You, Don’t Go and Situation plus tracks performed live for the first time ever, such as Nobody’s Diary.
The joyous, unlikely coming together of Vince Clarke, who had just left Depeche Mode, and Alison Moyet lasted for only 2 albums, performing just 24 concerts worldwide, but left an unforgettable mark on pop. Yaz released ‘Upstairs At Erics’ in July 1982, parting ways 12 months later upon release of their second album ‘You And Me Both’, which reached Number 1 in the UK.
