Plug In Stereo Signs To Triple Crown Records

Triple Crown Records is pleased to announce the signing of Portland, Oregon’s Plug In Stereo – also known as 17-year-old wunderkind Trevor Dahl. This jack-of-all-trades, multi-instrumentalist with a talent for crafting easy-going, down to earth acoustic melodies is excited for this next step in his career.
By the age of 16, Plug In Stereo was touring the country and sharing the stage with the likes of Never Shout Never, The Ready Set, and Dashboard Confessional, as well as dates on the 2009 Vans Warped Tour.
After self-releasing and self-recording two EPs, Dahl entered Engaged Audio with producer Kevin Gates (Never Shout Never, Cady Groves, The Ready Set) to record his first full-length Nothing To Something. The first digital single “Oh Darling” featuring guest vocals from Cady Groves (RCA) has scanned over 8,000 tracks in less than three months. The album will be released this fall via Triple Crown Records.

Martin Clancy and gLab collective inks deal with Seaport Music

Martin Clancy is a native of Dublin, Ireland who primarily writes and records in the medieval village of Haute De Cagnes, France. He is the first artist signed to New York’s Seaport Music record label. He is the artist in residence for the Seaport Music festivals. Martin DJs these events as part of his collective band gLab (pronounced Gee-Lab). In addition to gLab Martin has a dance outfit called Martin Clancy & The Witness Protection Programme. MC&TWPP will open for Yacht on August 6th at the NYC Seaport.

The new label owned by the New York Seaport organization, the same group of people that puts on free summer shows on the NYC coastline, whose huge outdoor festival has been home to Hot Chip, Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Battles among hundreds of other Indie and dance acts. They just released a free compilation that features all of this year’s bands.

gLab is Greg G (vox), Allie Jerome (vox) and Martin Clancy (music). The trio first met as Clancy, in the midst of a trans-Atlantic musical project with the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra, found himself in need of a savior to rescue his digital music files from a waterlogged, and seemingly dead, laptop he accidentally dropped into a storm drain. The files needed to be sent to the U.S. by that evening. Panicked, Clancy stumbled into a coffee shop where he found a phone booth and a tattered book of yellow pages bearing the date 1999. Flipping through the pages, Clancy spotted a small tombstone ad that read, “Mr. G Repairs…pretty much anything.”
After a quick call, Clancy found himself in a battered old Belingo van heading through the Dublin Mountains in the company of Mr.G. The pair ended up at an old brick warehouse -- both a repair shop and home for Mr. G, and a one Ms. Allie Jerome. With the laptop dismantled on a workbench piled with discarded motherboards and a sundry electronic parts, the musical contents of the all-important files became known, which lead to the appearance of a karaoke machine. The rest of the afternoon merged into one surreal memory, with Clancy recording the musical noises of Mr. G’s improvisational verse derived from a Japanese server manual and sung through copper tubing, and Allie’s percussive accompaniment on a martini glass while continually shouting "oh oh oh oh,” and thus becoming gLab.
Today, Clancy returns regularly to the warehouse to write and record with Allie and Mr. G – who, respectively, mix and pour musical libations and offer online repairs for all manner of electronic devices. Information on gLab, as well as the retail sale of a series of bespoke inverters, motherboard testers and laptop chargers, is available at

The Boston bred punk band Street Dogs return to champion the working class and to re-ignite punk rock with their finest and most urgent record to date, their self-titled fifth studio album, due out on August 31 via Hellcat Records. Following the release, the band will be touring in support of the new album along with Matt Freeman’s (Rancid) side project, Devils Brigade, and this year’s Celtic punk heroes Flatfoot 56.
Co-produced by bass player Johnny Rioux and Rick Barton and engineered and mixed by Jason Livermore (Rise Against, NOFX) at the infamous punk rock recording studio The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, CO., the self-titled Street Dogs album is a vigorous testament to the band’s longevity and ability to write inspiring punk rock that touches the soul and raises the fists.
Punk rock runs deep in the veins of Street Dogs, with McColgan’s uncompromising lyrics alongside bassist Johnny Rioux, guitarists Marcus Hollar and Tobe Bean III and drummer Paul Rucker’s fist pumping street punk anthems. The band burst onto the scene in 2002 and has released a string of classic albums including 2008’s State of Grace, which critics called "a raucous and purposeful working man's ride" (Dallas Morning News) with “the kind of political streak rarely heard since the Clash” (Cleveland Scene).
After incessant tours around the world alongside bands like The Offspring, Alkaline Trio, Anti-Flag, Reverend Horton Heat and headlining tours in US and Europe in support of State of Grace, Street Dogs will once again lead the fight against social and political injustices with their signature style of rabble rousing punk rock and the release of their fifth studio album on August 31 followed by a headlining US tour.
Raise your fists and pint glasses with Street Dogs this fall!

Islands Return to Toronto Wednesday, July 14 At The Mod Club

Symphonic indie rockers Islands will soon be back in Toronto. The Montreal based band, who Rolling Stone described as playing “wonderfully shambolic arena rock” is headed by charismatic front-man Nick Diamonds, and will be bringing their shimmering melodic rock back to Toronto fans joined by emerging Brooklyn new wavers Steel Phantoms and warped pop artist Gregory Pepper. Islands will be performing a mix of songs gleaned from their stunning 2006 debut Return To Sea, their lush orchestral follow up Arm’s Way and their latest visionary pop masterwork Vapours, which Filter Magazine called "an homage to indie pop with lovelorn lyrics, echoing refrains and melodic hooks" and Black Book Magazine described as "infectious and weird....masterful, refreshing synth-pop, served up pure and simple.”

Vans Warped Tour 2010 @ Arrow Hall, Toronto

Okay, first of all, Arrow Hall seriously sucks balls.
Is there like NOWHERE else? Perhaps somewhere with grass, and shade, and a drinking area that actually is part of the music, or a legit skateboarding area (it is still VANS Warped Tour isn't it?) ... I have to start catching the tour in Montreal because Toronto is failing hard at hosting it.

Second of all, who is picking the bands?
And why did all the rest of the great punk bands avoid Toronto?
Do you hate the over 19 crowd in Toronto Fat Mike? Why man, WHY!?
Here's who we got totally fucked in the ass over in Toronto:

Agent Orange
Angry Samoans
Big D & The Kids Table
Cobra Skulls
Dropkick Murphys
Left Alone
Reel Big Fish
Streetlight Manifesto
Swingin' Utters
The Adolescents
Voodoo Glow Skulls

There were just so many questionable artists there this year, I guess no different than the last two Arrow Hall years. It was just unfortunate how many minutes were passed avoiding every single stage, as opposed to rushing around to catch them all. And then all at once EVERY band you wanted to see were suddenly on all at once (ex: Walk Off The Earth (4:30), Riverboat Gamblers (4:30), and Face to Face (4:40)) and it was almost too convenient that it was all lumped together, leaving the rest of the day to watch bands that you never wanted to care about.
(Some of these bands I objectively wouldn't mind in another setting, but Warped Tour is Warped Tour and there are certain expectations built up over the years.)

The bands that I wanted to see and actually was able to catch worked to make up for all the same shit myself and everybody else complains about year after year before returning the next, and it's because of these bands that people like me return, despite all the others we failed to have pass through Toronto.
I've decided to hand out some meaningless awards to these bands that made the Vans Warped Tour still worthwhile this time around, and unfortunately there are more that deserve praise but I wasn't able to make it to their stage in time. SORRY!

The Best Band (Toronto)
The Best Hair
The Best Moves
The Best Vocals
The Best Band Who Didn't Belong There
The Most Impressive Performance
The Most Surprising Performance
The Most Delightful Afterthought
The Most Disappointing Performance
The Biggest Bummer
The Tough Guy(s)
The Winner of My Heart

I'm Sarah. I do what I want.

BETH ORTON Signs to Anti-Records -- Live Dates Announced

Acclaimed British singer-songwriter Beth Orton has signed worldwide to Anti-Records. A revered award-winning artist, Beth Orton is renowned for her distinct and intensely expressive voice. Orton’s adroit songwriting and emotionally evocative vocal style – infusing intimate folk reminiscent of Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell with lilting and subtly atmospheric pop flourishes -- has continuously evolved, yet always retained an intriguing mix of fragility and transcendence which never fails to move and inspire fans around the world.
Beth Orton’s early high profile collaborations with William Orbit and The Chemical Brothers, helped pioneer folk-tronica, and heralded the widespread recognition soon to come her way; but it was the release of her breakout album, Trailer Park, which established Beth, beyond a doubt, as a unique and formidable standalone figure on the music scene. Subsequent critically lauded releases Central Reservation, Daybreaker, and Comfort of Strangers have confirmed the stature of Beth’s craft and talent.
Beth Orton’s gifted artistry has been honored in the UK with a trio of BRIT and Mercury Award nominations, including a BRIT win for “Best British Female”. Meanwhile, America has taken Beth on as one of their own.
Currently eagerly finishing songs for a new album, Beth reports that she is "excited and happy to be on a label that is home to so many artists in my record collection. I can’t wait to get on and make a new record myself, to bring the songs I've been writing over the last couple of years to life."
Anti- is the perfect label to bring Beth Orton’s special talent and musical vision to full fruition. Anti- Records president Andy Kaulkin comments, “We are thrilled to be working with such a creative and unique artist as Beth Orton. We believe she fits perfectly with the label. After hearing some of her new songs, I think this record could be a defining moment in Beth’s already remarkable career.”
Beth Orton follows up her recent appearance at River to River at NYC’s Battery Park with a series of special selected dates in intimate settings throughout summer.

Beth Orton Acoustic Dates:
06 -30 NYC, NY River To River, Battery Pk
08-03 Washington, DC Lillith Fair
08-13 Philadelphia, PA, World Cafe Live
08-14 Pittsburgh, PA, Mr. Smalls
08-16 Northampton, MA Iron Horse
08-17 Hoboken, NJ, Maxwells
08-18 Annapolis, MD, Rams Head
08-21 Atlanta, GA, The Variety Playhouse

After releasing The Good News 7-inch vinyl in the UK earlier this year through the hip Beggar’s singles club Too Pure to great applaud, it’s now the most successful radio airplay single ever released by the label, receiving support from BBC Radio’s Steve Lamacq & Huw Stephens, and XFM’s John Kennedy. Philadelphia Grand Jury is set to continue this theme with the UK release of ‘Going To The Casino (Tomorrow Night)’ on Communion Records in the UK – run by Ben Lovett of Mumford and Sons and Kevin Jones of Cherbourg.

Mind Blowing!

Okay this is so wicked it gets promoted from video's to front page news!
All you have to do is this:
Play any one of Stephen Colbert's THE WORD monologues at the same time as THIS Necro Instrumental, and seriously it's like it was written specifically for this reason (was it?) and Colbert sounds super bad ass.

Here's one example:

REMEMBER, don't start the Necro song until Colbert actually starts The Word. You have to time it just right for it to work.

Matthew Leone from Madina Lake = HERO
