Summer has arrived. Break out the BBQ, find your favourite pair of shorts and open your ears: it’s time for some new music to add to your summer soundtrack. The fresh sense of optimism that always accompanies summer is the perfect headspace for Kilmore Place, an atmospheric and invigorating five-piece out of Vancouver. And how fitting a home - their sound is as wide as an ocean, tall as a mountain, and entirely DIY. With the release of ...What Happened?, their second EP, many will soon realize that Kilmore Place might very well be the kind of place they’d like to hang out.
Beginning with the inspired feel of ‘Runaway,’ ...What Happened? strikes on an immediately visceral level. If Coldplay called Vancouver home and had more folk-leanings, you might begin to understand Kilmore Place. The six tracks on ...What Happened? are all equally grand in scope, though ‘Night’s Forgotten’ stands out with groovy, melodic capabilities as does ‘Bag It Up’ in all its moody, edgy glory. ‘Lost At A Wedding’ is a track that not only encapsulates summer’s endless possibilities, but also presents palpable emotions which so many of us feel during summer’s one eternal constant: a friend’s wedding. But it’s the endearing manner which Kilmore Place present those emotions, as they do throughout ...What Happened? that really sets them apart.
And with a limitless sound, Kilmore Place are taking their sounds exactly where they should be: across this vast country of ours. Having shared stages with the likes of The Dudes, Hedley, and Hey Ocean, they’re now heading from British Columbia to Toronto and back again, and are ready not just to entertain, but to inspire. See this band live, but more importantly, feel them live.
Kilmore Place are Ryan Bacchus (vocals, guitar), Bryce Wagner (keyboards/percussion), Greg England (guitar), Marcus Abramzik (bass, vocals), and Eisa Godoussey (drums).
