SON OF A FUCK, Refused Again.

Man, I really jumped the gun on that one.
Can you blame me though? We all wanted it.
Things that are too good to be true, usually are.

According to
Ah, the Internet. Where a single message on a website can snowball into a full on rumor and generate some real excitement. Such was the case with recent predictions that famed Swedish progressive hardcore group Refused are set to re-form later this year. The band's official site recently updated with the message "Refused, coming soon..." These three words alone caused the furor, kicking off with BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Low tweeting "This. Is. HUGE!!!!!, Refused have reformed." followed suit, claiming an anonymous source confirmed they would be playing some European festivals.
Apparently the update on the site was just to promote an upcoming reissue of the band's beloved 1998 swansong The Shape of Punk To Come. That album is a large reason for Refused's towering legacy in hardcore and punk circles, and Epitaph is set to reissue the record in May. You can't blame fans for getting all worked up though, the beloved group's return would be as momentous as the Pavement reunion for punk rock devotees. After Refused's split they splintered into two groups, with lead singer Dennis Lyxzén fronting The (International) Noise Conspiracy and the bands other members forming TEXT. Two years ago, Lyxzén and drummer David Sandström formed a new hardcore group called AC4.

After over 100,000 records sold worldwide and receiving international acclaim, Juno nominee Manafest (aka Chris Greenwood) returns to partner with Fontana North for his release of The Chase. Already having debuted at #1 on the itunes Rock Charts in Japan, this fourth studio project is Manafest’s most aggressive and sonically evolved record to date.

Over the past seven years, Chris Greenwood has used the moniker Manafest to organically build his fan base playing over 1,000 shows on four separate continents. With singles garnering multiple TV placements, his tracks have most recently appeared in both the last and upcoming season of So You Think You Can Dance and in the recent Nike Rewind video.

Out on March 30th, The Chase is produced by Adam Messinger (Chris Brown, JoJo, Justin Bieber) and features eleven tracks of gritty guitars and aggressive rhymes fusing rock and rap styles. A video for the song ‘No Plan B’ is currently on heavy rotation on MuchMusic and the debut radio single ‘Fire In The Kitchen’ has been impacting Rock & CHR stations on medium rotation across the country.

With the catapulted success of The Chase already set to overdrive, Manafest is set to take Canada by storm. And if his track record hasn’t yet sealed the deal, this latest release surely will.

Ohmyshit ohmyshit ohmyshit ohmyshit ohmyshit ohmyshit!

Somebody pinch me, I think I'm going to throw up from TOO MUCH HAPPY!

Here's what they said on
This weekend, seminal Swedish hardcore pioneers Refused updated their website, which can be seen here. The site reads little more than a cryptic Coming Soon.. and has led a few news outlets and dozens of twitter users to speculate — and in some cases, outright assume — that the band has reunited. Others, like us, have been speculating about vinyl reissues of past albums or, as crazy as it sounds, a new website and nothing more.

Nothing official has been announced, but we'll keep you posted. The band last released The Shape of Punk to Come in 1998 and split up later that year. Members went on to form The (International) Noise Conspiracy, The Lost Patrol, Text and AC4.

UPDATE: An anonymous source close to the situation has confirmed that Refused will indeed be reuniting. Plans right now include live performances at some to-be-confirmed European summer festivals. We'll keep you updated as details come in.

You can thank me with two slaps on the ass, a pinch on the left tit and your penis in my vagina...sorry girls, you'll have to stick to the first two, maybe throw a couple more tit pinches in to even it out.

The Riot Before - What I've Missed by altpress

The inimitable Foxy Shazam has, by all accounts, killed it at SXSW. Their raucous performances at SPIN’s annual party and the Crush Mgmt showcase on Friday, March 19th received rave reviews all around:

“Mustachioed frontman Eric Nally…pranced, howled and preened…as his bandmates tagged along with joyful, chaotic abandon. The rapt before-lunch crowd looked fully converted and ready to testify to the primal, inordinately tight-pantsed force of Foxy.” - Entertainment Weekly

“Foxy Shazam brought the ruckus…with a show that had most people converted by song three. The band is a glam-pop face-melter, seemingly coming out of leftfield.” – Houston Press

“Soulful, groove-laden punk.” – American Songwriter

“By the time Nally literally climbed over the back of the stage and disappeared, I didn’t see a face in the place that didn’t have a big, silly grin plastered on it.” – Metromix

“Definitely a show you need to see” – Metro

Foxy previewed songs from their upcoming self-titled release, due out on Sire Records April 13th. Produced by John Feldmann, Foxy Shazam is the Cincinnati, OH band’s major label debut. It is currently available for presale at

Foxy Shazam’s debut single “Unstoppable” was featured on the broadcast of the 44th annual Superbowl, and the track is currently available for sale exclusively on iTunes: Watch the video for “Oh Lord” and more here: .

Quadron Release Self-Titled Debut Tomorrow On Plug Research

Album Streaming On

Quadron, a soulful, experimental duo from Copenhagen, Denmark whose track “Average Fruit” was a featured “Top Tune” artist of the day on acclaimed radio station KCRW, will release its self titled debut tomorrow, March 23rd. The album is available now on iTunes.

“Morning Becomes Eclectic” and “Today’s Top Tune” producer Ariana Morgenstern says of Quadron: “Danish duo Quadron provides a soulful mix of down-tempo beats with beautiful arrangements and orchestrations. Our intrepid DJ Anthony Valadez got his hands on an early copy and started slipping it into the mix here at KCRW. Soon enough, just about every DJ here got behind it.”

Morgenstern praises the band’s laid back, lounge sound for aptly representing a cross section of KCRW’s eclectic music format. Other notable tastemakers that are fans include Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D. and James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, as well as Gilles Peterson of BBC radio who picked the track "Day" as one of his faves of 2009.

Singer Coco also sites “Day” as her favorite song as well. “I love that it is the slowest song, but still the one that i can dance the best to. I love to sing it live, and it almost makes me cry every time.”

Lauded KCRW DJ Raul Campos of KCRW put Quadron in his Top 10 of 2009, noting, “It's rare to come across a full-length release that is stellar from beginning to end,” Campos says of the duo’s music. “The lush beats from Robin Hannibal and Coco’s beautiful vocals make Quadron a winner. With songs that are so full of emotion and life, this one is an instant classic in my book."

Quadron was formed when Robin met Coco, a 16-year-old ingénue influenced by such artists as Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and especially Lauryn Hill. As the duo started working together, they took their time, slowly forming the lush, groovy sound that encompasses Quadron.

Five years later, their self-titled debut will be released in the States via Los Angeles based label, Plug Research on March 23, 2010.

Many people file King Cobb Steelie in the “Where are they now?” file. However, a more appropriate filing should be “What could have been.” Al Okada knows this filing system all too well. In his seven years as a founding member of King Cobb Steelie, Okada had the esteemed pleasure of working with seminal producers such as Bill Laswell and Steve Albini. Furthermore, KCS’s Project Twinkle was nominated for a Juno in 1994 for Best Alternative Album.

Fans of Okada didn’t have to wait long for the release of new material; in 2001 he collaborated with Tamara Williamson under the Microbunny moniker. Gigging like crazy and getting their music out on a variety of television programs, including ‘ZeD’ and ‘The Shield,’ things were definitely looking up for Microbunny. Now, with the release of 49 Swans, their latest full-length, the future is looking ever more promising for Okada and Microbunny.

49 Swans is a record that must be felt as much as it needs to be heard. It’s a warm, inviting listen, full of patient, emotive harmonies that evoke as many images of soft sunsets as it does harsh, invigorating winters. Electronically-heavy but never overwhelming, 49 Swans draws influence from the mechanical beauty of Portishead and the evocative undertones of classic, lounge-room jazz. Consider ‘Blue September Blues,’ easily one of 49 Swans standout tracks. Here, the haunting vocal stylings of Rebecca Campbell seduce listeners, drawing attention to the deft players behind her, working their way through a dream-jazz tune as big as this very country itself.

But it’s not all lofty tracks. Okada gets back to his roots on the opener, ‘Gravity and Air,’ a loose, grunge-influenced track that is as nimble as it is powerful. Records like 49 Swans aren’t for the faint of heart; this is a record which one must make time for. But surely, listeners will be rewarded tenfold for their efforts. ‘Voodoo Slippers’ features some eclectic use of electronics, while ‘Evergrowing Rust on a 1967 Corvair’ looms with the threat of the monster under the bed that we all hoped never existed. Finally, ‘Embers’ is an aptly titled track, as the rich percussion and twisted, bluesy guitars will linger long after its last listen.

Don’t write 49 Swans off as an electronica record, however. Okada plays all the instruments on the record, opting for real time spontaneity. He adhered to his ethics; Okada only used analogue instruments and source samples available that pre-dated the “Digital age.” Computer technology was only used as a means to capture, edit and mix 49 Swans. Bearing these factors in mind, one begins to appreciate what an immense accomplishment the album really is. It’s one that haunts, persists, inspires. But mostly, it stays, and cements the importance of Al Okada as an artist.

DISTURBIA CLOTHING - Spring/Summer 2010 Collection
‘Proudly disturbing since 2003’

Since Disturbia Clothing was founded in 2003, it has grown into a behemoth of alternative fashion. Worn by the likes of Guns N Roses’ axeman Slash as well as Liam Howlett of The Prodigy, it now proudly supplies over 150 stores across Europe with its bold ‘re-evaluations of the everyday world’.

Created by fashion graduate Frank Major, as an outlet for his anarchic musings, the art of Disturbia is inspired by a love of subverting pop culture imagery coupled with fitting wordplay, and an underlying dark sense of humour. Initially creating all the designs himself, of late Disturbia has painstakingly sought out the best alternative artists to give each collection a mutli-faceted appeal. Last year Frank also designed 3 exclusive limited edition t shirts for The Prodigy which sold out within a matter of days. Talking of his creations, Major says;

"With the simple philosophy 'Disturb the Suburbs', our graphics darkly re-evaluate the everyday world. Familiar signs and modern semiotics are warped, deconstructed and reassembled, changing their context to reveal an alternative truth. With an irreverent humour and a punk ethos, our graphics bastardise pop-culture imagery, to reflect our material world."

Disturbia's Spring/Summer 2010 range was released at the beginning of February, and has been the best received yet, achieving record sales and further outlets across Europe. Designed by the cream of the crop of streetwear artists, the line features everything from stoned Baphomets, to man-eating burgers, all topped with a nice helping of gore. Disturbia continues to trawl the depths of depravity and human dysfunction in the name of t-shirt design!

U.K. juggernauts ENTER SHIKARI, known for an eclectic sound that audaciously melds hardcore punk with pulse-pumping drum’n’bass and dark, gut-churning dubstep, are set to join A Day To Remember, August Burns Red and Silverstein on the North American TOURSICK tour starting March 30th in Ft Lauderdale, FL. A number of dates are already sold out. The band will then join the Vans Warped Tour from June 24-July 18th.
The band’s latest release, Common Dreads (which debuted at #7 in the UK) is the follow-up to the gold-certified debut Take To The Skies--which also debuted in the UK top 10, earning the band headlining gigs and regular spots on the major worldwide festival circuit. The band’s most recent U.K. headline tour culminated with a triumphant show in front of over 5000 fans at the Hammersmith Apollo.
Common Dreads is available digitally in the United States via the band’s own imprint Ambush Reality in partnership with DGC/Interscope Records. The physical release will be available in all Hot Topic stores beginning April 13th. Fans can also purchase the album at all shows as well as from the band’s merch store:
For the latest album, the group headed to the isolated Isle Of Wight and holed-up at Arreton Manor studio for three months with veteran producer Andy Gray (U2, Tori Amos, Korn, Gary Numan). Common Dreads is a 15-song soundtrack for an entire generation on a mission to define the era in which it was born: one of recession, paranoia, state control and the fallout of decades of accelerated capitalism; and on the other side, an era of hope, creativity, humanity, hedonism, irreverence and fun. “Politics are unavoidable,” explains lead vocalist ROU REYNOLDS. “We just can’t write sappy music. Our first album was cryptic and metaphor-heavy, this one is more direct. Since we gained popularity, we realized, whether we like it or not, we have the ability to influence people--and with that is a responsibility to speak our minds.” Common Dreads is destined to unite the tribes, divide the critics and thoroughly satisfy anyone who has witnessed the mad live spectacle that is ENTER SHIKARI.

Enter Shikari is: Rou Reynolds (vocals / electronics) Rory Clewlow (guitar / backing vocals) Chris Batten (bass / vocals) Rob Rolfe (drums).

Everyone knows that through pain and loss, great art is often created. Toronto born musician Scott Lanaway knows this all too well. After the success of 2006’s Answering Machine Diaries, critics were quick to laud Lanaway; Exclaim! Magazine claimed that he was “...refining his sonically experimental compositions into the complex and meticulous nuggets that appear on this album...” while SceneAndHeard said “Lanaway isn’t afraid to get a little experimental...and that fearlessness works.”
But 2008 and 2009 weren’t the best years for Lanaway. Experiencing a harsh period of personal loss, he channeled his emotions into Mergers and Acquisitions, his sophomore full-length release out on March 23rd. An album of songs about life and death, the internal and external world, time and space, illusion and substance, don’t be quick to back Mergers and Acquisitions into the “paradoxical record” corner. Lanaway emerges with an unheralded appreciation for his craft; one that’s heard with astounding force through his electronically-laden, daring tracks.
Lanaway says of his latest: “The big mandate I had was to be authentic to the spirit of each song without second or third-guessing what was happening. Being intuitive and letting go. I took lots of chances and felt very uninhibited.” And sure enough, there is a certain uninhibited edge on Mergers and Acquisitions, one that will have listeners believing not only in his tunes but in his vision as well. Consider the wondrous, contemplative groove of ‘Oprah, God Wants You To Have A Private Jet’ which marries the dream-like state often induced by Neil Young with Radiohead’s persistently hypnotic vibe.
He continues: “I spent lots of time exploring sound, textures and instruments. This allowed me to explore many musical dimensions.” The rich textures of Lanaway’s work are heard in the temperate but oddly intoxicating beat of ‘1333.’ It’s easy to sense Lanaway’s appreciation of haunting acoustic melodies in ‘The Ice Storm’ and ‘Juliet Of The Spirits’. And the fast-paced dub feel of ‘What We Already Knew’ certainly adheres to Lanaway’s principles.
“In the end the deciding factor was always whether the emotion of the song was coming through in the best way possible.” For him, this was a record driven by emotion. Letting those emotions speak is what remains the driving force behind Mergers and Acquisitions. It may have been a record that was born out of loss, but it will certainly provide a lot of hope for Scott Lanaway fans – both old and new.

Conservation group SEA SHEPHERD today announced that Zoli Teglas, PENNYWISE front man and Volunteer Music & Outreach Coordinator for SEA SHEPHERD; Kurt Lieber, SEA SHEPHERD board member; and Grace Ko, director of operations for PELICAN RESCUE TEAM, are organizing the Friday, March 12 protest during the lunchtime rush to educate patrons in Santa Monica that endangered whale species are being consumed at THE HUMP restaurant.
SEA SHEPHERD, the subject of ANIMAL PLANET’S hit show, WHALE WARS, inspired the team behind Oscar-winning documentary film, THE COVE, to orchestrate what the New York Times describes as “a covert operation to ferret out what the authorities say is illegal whale meat at one of this town’s most highly regarded sushi destinations.”
When the story broke Monday ( ) and they heard that operators of THE HUMP could at most be fined $20,000 and serve one year in prison for violating the MARINE MAMMAL PROTECTION ACT, Teglas, Lieber and Ko sprang into action, obtaining police approval and organizing a peaceful protest during the lunchtime rush on Friday to encourage Los Angeles area sushi lovers to help put an end to restaurants in the US and Japan selling endangered whale species as delicacies.
The peaceful protest will take place on Friday, March 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Hump Restaurant at The Santa Monica Airport - 3221 Donald Douglas Loop South - Santa Monica, CA 90405.

You hear the word all the time in write-ups: transcendence. It’s almost become kitch. But finally, an artist who delivers on the promise. Pip Skid, a longstanding legend of Canadian hip-hop presents Skid Row, an electrifying and energetic blast of socially conscious hip-hop that only solidifies Pip Skid’s position as a force to be reckoned with. His unique brand of hip-hop hits listeners not only on a visceral but cerebral level too.
But why would you expect any less from Pip Skid? Here’s the harsh truth, for those who (unfortunately) might not be familiar with his raging yet thought-provoking brand of hip-hop. Utilizing a range of genres, including driving guitars that elevate his MC skills, Pip Skid has been making music for 17 years and shows no signs of letting up. His live show is renowned for it’s intensity, as the normally reclusive artist sheds his skin and provides a powerful show, leaving audiences clamoring for more.
And Pip Skid does his part to deliver as much of his art as possible to his fans. Starting out with the seminal group Farm Fresh from his native Brandon, Manitoba, Pip held his own at the forefront of a burgeoning hip-hop scene in central Canada in the early 1990’s. He is a cornerstone of the success of indie label Peanuts & Corns Records and has featured on many of their 40 releases. And by day, Pip Skid delivers hip-hop to the youth around him, participating in his “Make Rap Happen” program, which is in high demand with schools and cultural groups. “Make Rap Happen” focuses on the history of hip-hop and teaches children to express themselves through deejaying, performing and recording.
But on March 30th, with the release of Skid Row, Pip Skid will do some weighty self-expression of his own. Tracks like “I Never Knew” presents an infectious, jangly groove with Skid’s trademark socially-frustrated lyrics elevating the track to something, well, transcendent. And the powerful title track echoes some of Cypress Hill’s best work, combining furious guitar solos and fist-in-the-air MC’ing that will no doubt grip audiences with its immediacy. Skid shifts things up on “Ten Dollars” which pays homage to classic, 80’s-influenced hip-hop that will have purists salivating.
There’s no shortage of hip-hop out there today. But Pip Skid presents something different; his brutally honest take on the world around him puts him in a class of his own. And for that, everyone around him is better off.

See Pip Skid live March 13th at the West End Cultural Centre in his hometown of Winnipeg backed by a live band featuring Nestor Wynrush, DJ Kutdown and members of Annihilator, Nova and Banned From Atlantis.

This Just In: Atom Willard = RETARDED!

What the fuck is this about Atom Willard, the not-current-anymore drummer of the AMAZING band Social Distortion and member of the SHITTASTIC CRAP called Angels & Airwaves, QUITTING SOCIAL D TO FOCUS ON THAT GROSS GARBAGE THAT SHOULD BE CALLED ASS & AIRFARTS?

Let me get this straight.
He onced drummed for The Offspring, and then ended up leaving that band to focus on A&A... which I can't blame him for considering they were on hiatus and went on to make that last load of chronic diarrhea they called an album.

But now... to leave Social D for that gorilla spunk and some more commercial loving freedom?

Retaks Injects Sport Into Show at Extreme Thing In Las Vegas

Event Creates Record Fourth Stage March 27

The Retaks Expressions Tour kicks off at Extreme Thing 2010 on March 27 at the Desert Breeze Skate Park near Durango Drive and Spring Mountain Road. The event will include the third annual Retaks Local Ripper Mini Ramp Skateboard Competition, and the Retaks Battle of the Shops. Retaks will sponsor a fourth stage at Extreme Thing, a record for the event. The specially constructed stage physically connects the concert space with the ramp and will feature live music from Guilty By Association, Ministry of Love and Battle Born all from Las Vegas; Avery Watts from Los Angeles and Parker Theory from San Diego.

Three local skateboard shops will compile approximately the top 30 qualifiers of all ages in the region who will pay $20 to enter the open competition – there are no age group requirements in this competition. Registration includes one general admission ticket to the event plus competitor wristbands and Retaks Competitor gift bag. Skaters younger than 18 years old will receive one pass for their parent/guardian who will be required to sign a liability waiver on site. Competition is open to all amateur skateboarders. Those who’d like to participate can contact Pharmacy Board Shop, 4845 S. Fort Apache Road in Summerlin (228-4755); Industrial Ride Shop inside the Galleria at Sunset mall in Henderson (435-0600) or the Area 702 Skatepark, 3040 Simmons St., suite #104, in North Las Vegas (870-7588). Spaces are limited.

After initial competition, five individual sessions will determine the top five competitors, who will be judged solely on their at least 4-minute individual run. Open jam practice will take place in the morning until the first Retaks Concert Band takes the stage. Then, each of the five competitors will have approximately 20 minutes to practice their individual runs before final competition begins. The contest will be judged by three independent or professional skaters to be announced at a later time.

Local lifestyle backpack company Retaks – the word “skater” inscribed backwards – created the Expressions Tour three years ago and kicks off the 2010 event at Extreme Thing. Retaks started in 2005 when a father and his two sons scribbled an idea on the back of an airline flight barf bag and has since designed backpacks to suit the lifestyle of the extreme sports enthusiast. The tour presents the best of local skate and BMX riders in amateur competitions. This year the company added a music component to the tour with a five-band concert stage next to the mini ramp.

Extreme Thing Sports and Music Festival, now in its 15th year, welcomes The Used, Five Finger Death Punch, Escape the Fate, Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Story of the Year and The Bled on the Verizon Wireless main stage with Never Shout Never, The Cab, Hey Monday, Every Avenue, The Summer Set, Call The Cops and The Ready Set taking the newly formed AP (Alternative Press) Stage. This will be the first year Extreme Thing will feature four stages, with the third being the XPOZ Local Band Stage. Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 day of the show. A combo package also is available for $35 and includes a ticket, commemorative event T-shirt and artist-signed event poster.

Only a personal “unopened” bottle of water can be brought into the festival along with still cameras and sunscreen. There will be plenty of ATMs on site this year with an array of food vendors available, from barbecue to Thai, along with beverages. No alcohol will be sold. No animals, coolers, weapons or chairs are permitted. No re-entry will be permitted.

Sponsors include X107.5 FM, Las Vegas CityLife, My LV TV, CW Las Vegas, Red Bull, Verizon Wireless, Wasted Space and The XPOZ Coalition.

Take Action Tour Raises Over $60,000!!

The recently completed ninth annual Take Action Tour just wrapped up with one last triumphant hurrah in Dallas on March 2, 2010. The tour, whose mission is to create a better world, continues to inspire and make change in a proactive manner.

The Impact of the 2010 Take Action Tour:

Over $60,000 raised to help further the mission of Patrick Pedraja and his organization Driving For Donors
Over 30,000 fans in 31 cities proved that the world can be made a better place
Tour reaches goal enlisting over 2010 fans to sign up for the National Marrow Registry!
Nearly 8,000 copies of the Take Action Volume 9 compilation sold

Headlining band We The Kings, along with Mayday Parade, A Rocket To The Moon, There For Tomorrow, Stereo Skyline, and Call The Cops united an impressive amount of fans across the U.S. and Canada that cared about more than just attending a great show. The active and engaged audience stood up to make a difference by raising funds, awareness and actual life saving donor volunteers for Driving For Donors (an organization started by now 14-year-old Patrick Pedraja who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 10) whose mission is to sign up people to the National Marrow Registry.

Take Action 2010 raised over $60,000 for Patrick Padraja's mission through the unique model of donating 10% of each ticket sold to charity, along with other fundraising efforts including donating 5% of the suggested retail price of each Take Action Volume 9 compilation sold.

Hopeless/Sub City would like to thank all the bands and labels involved this year that brought the message directly to fans that each one of us can take action and make the world a better place.

Take Action looks forward to continue to support Patrick Pedraja and Driving For Donors' mission of saving lives and everyone at Hopeless Records & Sub City Non Profit is grateful for the opportunity to organize this tour to benefit him and be involved in such a great cause in even a small way. Hopeless Records & Sub City Non Profit is hard at work on the next Take Action Tour and will be announcing the next benefiting charity soon. All The latest information can always be found at

2010 Take Action Tour Charity:

Driving For Donors exists to draw donors, attention, and funds to the National Marrow Registry. The non-profit organization is the brainchild of now 14-year-old Patrick Pedraja who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 10. In 2007, at age 11, Patrick and his family started Driving For Donors and traveled around the country in a special "Donormobile" with the mission of signing people up for the National Marrow Registry to help find bone marrow matches for people in need of a transplant. Since then they have added over 22,000 donors to the registry, saved more than 24 people's lives with matches and raised over $100,000 for tissue typing fees and drive expenses by selling advertising on Patrick's bald head.

About Hopeless Records & Sub City Non Profit:
In 1999 Hopeless Records formally started supporting non-profit organizations under the Sub City banner with charitable albums, tours, and events. Now itself a registered 501c3 non-profit organization, Sub City continues this mission of raising funds and awareness for worthy causes, and to date has raised nearly $2 million dollars for over 50 non-profit organizations.

After wrapping up a Japan/Australian tour with Machine Head and Hatebreed, Bleeding Through will embark on a US headlining tour in support of their upcoming release. Their ominously self-titled new album, their first for Rise Records, is the perfect distillation of their past with a solid look forward to the future: dark, aggressive, full of rage and sorrow.
Catch Bleeding Through on "The Spring Breakdown Tour: 2010" with support from Born of Osiris, Sleeping Giant, Oceano and fellow Rise Records band Legend, at your favorite venue this spring!

Ron Contour aka Moka Only Releases Saffron

Who is Ron Contour? Is he Moka Only, a mainstay of the Canadian hip-hop scene? Is he even Canadian? We can’t be entirely sure, but what we do know is that Ron enjoys some of the finer things in life (food, women, vintage clothing) and his latest and greatest collaboration with producer Factor is the perfect introduction to his world of debauchery and snacking.
Out on March 9th, Ron Contour, teaming up with Saskatoon-based producer Factor, will deliver Saffron (Fake Four Records), an eccentric but devilishly satisfying record that presents a relaxed and vibey record that is impossible not to indulge in.
The story of Ron Contour and Moka’s relationship is an important one. Ron’s first release in 1999 was masterminded by Moka and was actually BILLED as Moka Only IS Ron Contour. Moka did this as a devious way to break Ron Contour into the rap world so he could indulge in those “finer things” Ron holds so dear to his heart. The album came out to critical acclaim although there was some confusion as to whether or not it was really Moka on the album. After 2000 Ron Contour dropped out of the scene altogether to pursue girls and beekeeping. Women found him tolerable and while many would consider this a foolish move, to hear some of the beats and rhymes on Saffron, you’d understand that Ron works on a totally different level. In 2007 Ron approached Moka about getting back into the rapping industry and his new release showcases the peculiar rapper’s triumphant return to the world of hip-hop.
Unabashedly low-key, Saffron is an album for late-nights and rainy afternoons alike. Tracks like “Prairie Wind” swoon with a tripped out groove that haunts as much as it encourages elevation. “Wondrous” uses some enticing sampling while highlighting Ron’s casual manner of luring listeners into his intense headspace. And “Confused Nougat” kicks things up a notch with vintage beats while still providing some of Contour’s hilariously bewildering lyrics. Laced with Factor’s signature drums and psychedelic funk, Saffron is not to be taken lightly.
With over 40 albums, both solo and collaborative under his vintage belt, he has been a contributing member of numerous groups and collectives, and has worked with underground hip-hop heroes including J Dilla, MF Doom, Buck 65, K-Os, and Aceyalone. While listeners can’t be too sure exactly who Ron Contour is, one thing is for certain: a legend has returned, and with Saffron, Ron Contour won’t be disappearing anytime soon.

Baton Rouge rockers MERIWETHER announced the digital release date of their new album, Plug In The Snakes for March 22, 2010. The band will begin celebrating its new release with three high profile shows in Austin , TX at SXSW on March 19 and 20.
Anyone attending SXSW should make the effort to catch the band’s blistering live set at one of the following performances: March 19 at the All Together Now Showcase at Bayou Lounge at 11:20PM (18+); March 19 at the Texas Rockfest (outdoors on the corner of 7th and Neches) at 1AM (all ages); and March 20 at the Showcase at Treasure Island at 12AM (21+)
With over 4 million new media plays, the band is already a premier headlining act in the Southeast consistently selling out top draw venues such as the New Orleans House of Blues, and the Varsity Theatre in Baton Rouge . After finding much success selling more than 15,000 copies of its GVE Records debut Make Your Move, MERIWETHER is amping up for the worldwide release of its new album, Plug in the Snakes.
The band took a minor detour after the release of its debut as its sophomore effort Sons of Our Fathers (produced by Howard Benson) was shelved after signing a major label deal with Suretone/Interscope Records. Severing those ties, MERIWETHER has gone back to its roots and is as fierce and hungry as ever. Plug in the Snakes was recorded and self-produced with the help of local prodigy Brian Beyt and also features guest appearances from several popular artists from the region.
“Plug in the Snakes is pretty fast-paced and full of energy," singer/guitarist Drew Reilley explained to LSU’s Tiger Weekly.
“We went out-of-the-box for the recordings and tried to have a lot of fun experimenting with different instruments,” Reilley offers. “It’s much more aggressive than our past recordings. I think our frustration with the situation we’ve been in with the industry over the last few years has definitely contributed to this.”
For MERIWETHER (singer/guitarist Drew Reilley; guitarist Steve Bergeron, bassist Josh Barbier, guitarist/keyboardist Skip Angelle and drummer Sam Anderson) it’s all about wearing your heart on your sleeve. “I try to be as straightforward as I can,” Reilley confesses. “I think honesty is one of the biggest keys: let’s get to the point and have people connect immediately.”
Warped Tour veterans, MERIWETHER has also opened for everyone from The Starting Line and Armor For Sleep to Puddle of Mudd and Staind. “We’re definitely a live band,” Reilley points out. “It’s the rawest form of a band: it’s just us with all our guards down and guns blaring. We love to play and I love to be on tour. It’s almost sick how much I like to be on the road.”
