THE USED ANNOUNCE TWITTER LISTENING PARTY

On Monday August 31st THE USED will rock the Twitter-sphere with the FIRST EVER 24-hour tweet-for-ticket album listening party for fans. The admission? ONE TWEET GETS YOU IN. Built by Culture Jam Labs and Warner Bros Records, the virtual listening party for Artwork, the new album from The Used, will give fans the chance to stream the entire album in exchange for one tweet on the release date. The listening party will be hosted exclusively on http://twitter.theused.net.

Fans can enter this exclusive album listening party by turning their social Twitter updates into digital currency – essentially purchasing a ticket to the event with one tweet by tweeting the suggested message “You can listen to the new @wearetheused album #Artwork today for 24 hours only at http://twitter.theused.net. ONE TWEET GETS YOU IN.”

Once inside the listening party, fans can stream Artwork in its entirety, see other fans participating in the listening party, and be some of the first to purchase the album on itunes, Rhapsody or TheUsed.net. As a special bonus, fans will also be able to stream two B-sides, “On The Cross” (Save Yourself Mix), and “In A Needle” along with the album.

Artwork is the fourth studio album from Reprise Records artists The Used. Early critical acclaim for the Matt Squire-produced Artwork has been effusive. Outburn (which the band currently graces the cover of) praised its “humbling ability to sound scrappy and raw while being perfectly polished and huge,” while Alternative Press states "The Used have delivered not only the definitive album of their career but arguably one of the best records you'll hear in 2009. 4 ½ stars."

Bio:
The Upwelling is an American band. What it means to be an American band has changed over time, just like the American dream itself. Once an ideal banking on "you get what you earn," the dream has been into its own inversion: "what can I get for nothing?" The same can be said for the ethos of American bands. With record labels, managers and booking agents now a dime a dozen and your big break being just a matter of getting the right person to notice your Myspace page, bands have become lazy. What used to be about getting out there and doing it is now just about finding someone to do it for you.

The Upwelling are an American band in the classic sense. The "your destiny is your own" sense. Not this "hard work is for suckers" shit. The breadth of work, trial, and toil that has lead to the long-coming completion of their first LP, An American Stranger, is not only commendable, its an admirable call back to the days when a band worked to work, not to achieve. The Upwelling are a rare breed these days, and though it's sad that the old-school is now refreshing, it's one of the things that makes listening to them so enjoyable...

Where so many found reasons to shelter and disconnect themselves in the wake of 9/11, Ari Ingber instead felt the proclivity to create, and began writing songs as a means of dealing with the immense tragedy he and his fellow New Yorkers faced. Though the inception of the singer/guitarist's inspiration was founded under such intolerable circumstances, the resulting endeavor read true of American optimism and buoyancy. Recruiting brother Joshua Ingber on drums, the two set out to live life doing what inspired them. It was then that the Upwelling was conceived and the final ingredients were in place for the band to scale far beyond what even Ari could have envisioned sitting with his guitar on September 12th.

The following months and years showed the band beginning the process of making their own on their own. Self-releasing a 5 song EP which earned itself a place on Virgin Megastore's "Virgin Recommends" series (a first for an unsigned band and for an EP), the band then honed the honors of Spin.com's "Underground Band of the Year," Karma Productions' band to tour Ireland, and the distinction of being a "Rave Review Band at SXSW" in Hits Daily. Without any representation the band garnered themselves tours with the All-American Rejects in the U.S., U.K., and Europe, as well as a slot as the sole support on Third Eye Blind's 10-year anniversary tour, not to mention additional support spots with Metric, Ben Kweller, the Wrens, The Stills, We Are Scientists and VHS or Beta.

All the work and attention eventually led their to their signing with the All- American Rejects' label Edmond Records (a subsidiary of indie stalwart Doghouse Records), and the wrangling of producers Jason Hill (Louie XIV), Stephen Jenkins (Third Eye Blind), and Tyson Ritter (The All-American Rejects). The recording process with Stephen Jenkins even led to Ari co-writing "About to Break," a single from Third Eye Blind's forthcoming full-length (their first in six years). Though the band's endearing work ethic can't be underlined enough, without the music to back it up, its moot. The Upwelling do not fail in this capacity. The cream most certainly does rise when it comes to the quality of the band's songwriting.

Even in brief conversations with Ari about music, its instantly apparent the brevity feeling and instinct hold in his outlooks on songwriting and recording. This isn't a guy worried about constructing a perfect hit, or following the all-too-popular trend of trading soul for polish. This is a guy who believes that the process is as important as the intent, and that the tracking of a great song starts when he feels like he's making something special. Precision is secondary, and when listening to the disarmingly frank-yet-effective musicality of songs like "Paris"and "Who Needs You," its hard to argue with such perspective.

The Americanism that spirits the band's operation also peers through in Ari's modern-storybook lyrics. Where their peers may try to mire their lyrics in trudging metaphors and banal vagueness, Ari finds surprising effectiveness in shooting it honest and pointed. "American Girls" perfectly captures the torment of a modern American man raised to abide the mythical chivalry and romanticism demanded by American women, even when said ladies don't necessarily deserve it: "They want a kiss like the movies. Like their under the sky on the 4th of July. An honest kiss just won't suffice. They will want to remember for the rest of their lives." "Losers" finds a man unable (and unwilling) to run with the NYC jetset, languishing amongst those willing to throw away their income and septums on $20 martinis and a mile of cocaine.

But the record's most tragically poignant and uniquely American lyrics come during the album's closing epic "Ladder 116." Written on that day following the Twin Towers attacks, the song is replete with lush, sometimes Floyd-inspiried synths and what are hands-down Ari's most powerful vocals on the album. The song fluently paints a canvas of the morning a gorgeous day was ravaged and destroyed. The emotion of the vocals backed by the canter of the
music hypnotizes the listener, and what is close to six minutes of arching dynamics seems to go in half the time, leaving the listener satisfied with a truly completed record -- the scope of the experience fully realized.

An American Stranger is a noteworthy record. That's all it comes down to. To find a rock record these days that offers such variety, feeling, and humanness (both in sprit and execution) is far from regular. Not to mention its ability to ensnare fans of a variety of genres. Anyone from a Frank Black courter to Chris Martin's stalker to a Tyson Ritter swooner would not be out of place singing along at an Upwelling show. That's a pretty remarkable thing is this age of invitation-only internet sub-genres. It's nice to see indie rock still have a life without pretension.

But regardless of all this gesticulating, the Upwelling just pride themselves in being a hard-working band, and that's what is great about them. They will most certainly be coming through your town, driving themselves, loading themselves in, and making sure that the old-style ethic of the American band lives on. It's good know someone is keeping it on life-support.

LoveHateHero Releases Two New Tracks On Itunes; Full Album Pre-Order Launches Next Week

LoveHateHero has just released two new songs on iTunes. “America Underwater” and “Echoes” will appear on America Underwater, the band’s long awaited 3rd album, due out September 29th on Ferret Records. Purchase the new tracks at: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?i=326504918&id=326504913&s=143441&uo=6.

The LA four-piece joined the Vans Warped Tour last weekend and has been playing to enthusiastic crowds each day. Watch for them on the SmartPunk Stage throughout the remainder of the tour.

Ferret will launch the full album pre-order for America Underwater next week. Watch for full details later this week.

At the end of 2008, LoveHateHero felt like it was time to step outside the boundaries they had created for themselves with their previous efforts. After building a solid fan base with their first two albums, Just Breathe and White Lies, which they had supported by touring nationally with such acts as Chiodos, Funeral for a Friend, and Scary Kids Scaring Kids, the band, despite all its hard work, felt like it had not quite hit its stride. Even after White Lies sold over 20,000 copies in the U.S. and drew the attention of magazines like Alternative Press and Outburn, something wasn’t quite right and they knew it.
While writing songs for their newest release America Underwater, the band retooled their sound. The result was a record that focuses more on their well-developed vocal melodies and cleanly polished hooks. Nearly reinventing itself as a whole, the group dropped a lot of the edginess from its songs, using it sparingly instead of as a crutch to rest on. For this release, “maturing as songwriters” wasn’t just a cliché.
“Everyone’s better at what they’re doing so we were able to get more creative,” singer Pierrick Berube explains. “The album still holds true to the band’s sound but adds so much more depth, while at the same time being a more care free album.
“I think we concentrated more on songwriting and the material, what the songs are about,” Pierrick continues. “We wanted everything to be a complete song instead of just parts that shredded or were heavy. We didn’t want each song to be random riffs, we wrote complete songs that are just good songs. We simplified it but opened it up with vocal harmonies and music melodies in a way that we could have more fun.”
Backed by a phenomenal team including platinum selling pop/rock producers Daniel James and Leah Haywood at Dreamlab Productions, Grammy nominated mixing genius Brian Paturalski (Aerosmith, Silverchair), and mastering guru Ted Jensen (Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Tokio Hotel, etc.), this four piece from the City of Angels is guaranteed to inspire those fans who have loved them before and win over those who never gave them a chance.
“Our producers work with a lot of pop acts, but they’ve always had a love for rock & roll,” Pierrick states. “It was a great learning experience to record with them. They are excellent songwriters and are really knowledgeable about song structure and it helped us a lot.”
When LoveHateHero was finished recording, the band exited Dreamlab Productions with ten anthemic, pop-laced rock songs, powered by Pierrick’s signature vocals and Thrasher’s relentless guitar attack. With Scot Gee (drums) and Paris Bosserman (bass) solidifying the rhythm section, the band steamrolls forward with more passion and fervor than ever before.

Patrick Brealey Announces Tour Dates (and homemade pickles)‏

It’s been a busy summer for Toronto-based Patrick Brealey. Following the July 14th release of Mercury in Songbirds (Boompa Records) he toured western Canada, celebrated his release with a party in his second hometown of Vancouver, and landed a coveted spot at the Mariposa Folk Festival. Come September he’s set to hit the road again playing select shows along with a CD release celebration in Toronto.
"...a swinging roots/country artist whose writing smacks of experience well beyond his years...Looking forward to more from this guy. Grade B+"
- Vancouver Province
Shining a modern light on the roots of North American popular music, Patrick Brealey blends elements of folk, country, cabaret and blues to deliver lyrically driven songs with a uniquely powerful voice. Having shared stages with Serena Ryder, Justin Rutledge, and Luke Doucet, he is an accomplished pianist, agile vocalist, and adept guitar picker. His ability to engage an audience is a signature of his live shows - captivating crowds and moving them to react is a true testament to his belief that art is nothing without an audience. And surely the fact that he offers his own homemade pickles and preserves at his shows doesn’t take away of his charm. (Visit The Dakota Tavern and Henhouse in Toronto to taste for yourself!)
"His new record - Mercury in Songbirds - is filled to the brim with swagger, tenderness, a penchant for percussive clank and above all, charisma. It’s those seemingly simple qualities that will draw comparisons to the greats and make Brealey an artist to watch."
- Herohill
Patrick’s latest album Mercury in Songbirds is a collection of songs born in a different era, raised today and fed by the influence of songwriters like Lyle Lovett, Tom Waits and Willie Nelson. From the early rock and roll swing of “I Don’t Want to Hear Another Love Song” to the laid back dobro on “Castaway Heart” and the country heartache of “Please Don’t Love Me with that Love”, these songs reminisce of days gone by while carving a distinctive niche in today’s Canadian folk and roots scene.

Catch him live at the dates below. Please note the Toronto show is a benefit for the St. Stephen in the Fields Community Meal Program.

The Fast Romantics - S/T Release

Surviving a near-death experience, sleep deprivation, and sugar overload all in the making of their new album, The Fast Romantics continue to go for broke, along with the backing support of some boss industry and media players. Out on August 18th, their self-titled debut album is an imaginative and upbeat effort revealing Brit-pop and indie-rock influences, infinite passion, and distinguished talent.
“The Fast Romantics are one of the most promising bands listeners have yet to catch up with.”
- Calgary Sun

After catching the ear of legendary Mix Engineer Mike Fraser (Franz Ferdinand, Sam Roberts, AC/DC, Elvis Costello) the Calgary based quartet spent a few months recording the album in their self-financed Post/War Studios and hooked up with Grammy award winner Adam Ayan (Nirvana, Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters) to have it mastered.
"Being in this business almost 30 years I've heard lots of bands and lots of styles of music. Once in a blue moon a real gem comes along. Even in it's roughest state you know you're hearing something special and you want to be involved, period. It's just a matter of time before this band will be everywhere."
- Mike Fraser, Mix Engineer

The Fast Romantics played their first show with the current line-up in September 2007 and have since played alongside acts such as Stone Temple Pilots, The Flaming Lips, The Fratellis, and The Stills. They’ve had two top ten singles on commercial radio, features on CBC, continual praise in print, and a national tour including a headlining slot at this years Canadian Music Week.

THE USED ANNOUNCE NATIONWIDE HEADLINING TOUR

Platinum-certified Reprise Records artists The Used have announced a nationwide headlining fall tour. The month-long run, which kicks off October 9th in Las Vegas, NV and runs through November 14th in Portland, Oregon, will support their new album, Artwork, out August 31, 2009. The Almost and TK will be supporting.
Early critical acclaim for the Matt Squire-produced Artwork has been effusive. Outburn (which the band currently graces the cover of) praised its “humbling ability to sound scrappy and raw while being perfectly polished and huge,” while Alternative Press states
"The Used have delivered not only the definitive album of their career but arguably one of the best records you'll hear in 2009. 4 ½ stars."
The Used’s legions of fans are responding as well. The first single, “Blood On My Hands” premiered on iTunes with over 5k downloads in the first day, the highest digital debut in the band’s history. The video for the song debuted on MySpace and shot directly to the #1 spot, with 200,00 views in the first 24 hours. The band is one of MySpace’s Top 15 artists, with over 100,000 streams a day on the site. The second track to premiere on iTunes will be “Born To Quit.” It will be released on August 11th.

ALL TIME LOW STRIP DOWN AND BARE ALL FOR MTV UNPLUGGED

Baltimore pop-punk band All Time Low recently stripped down their songs to just an essential heart beat, exclusively for MTV Unplugged. The performance was shot in New York City, and had the band take their high-energy performance down a notch in the candle-lit studio for some very fortunate fans who intently sung along. Watch All Time Low play two new songs off their latest album Nothing Personal, “Damned If I Do Ya, Damned If I Don’t” and “Weightless”. Also don’t miss live performances from their previous releases "So Wrong ,It's Right" and "Put Up Or Shut Up" including “Dear Maria, Count Me In,” “Coffee Shop Soundtrack,” “Jasey Rae” and a surprise duet with Kate Voegele on “Remembering Sunday.”

You can catch the clips on air on MTV or watch them online at MTV.com.

The Honorary Title Summer Acoustic Tour; Limited Edition Tour EP

The Honorary Title’s Jarrod Gorbel and Dustin Dobernig (keyboards) hit the road in late August for an acoustic tour with Good Old War and Cory Branan supporting.
Gorbel is currently putting the finishing touches on his first solo record – a dramatic departure for the New York singer-songwriter, who spent the early part of this summer in a Los Angeles studio with producer Blake Sennett, formerly of Rilo Kiley and The Elected. They rounded up a killer backing band – including Jason Boesel (formerly of Rilo Kiley, and currently in Conor Oberst’s Mystic Valley Band) on drums, Azure Ray’s Orenda Fink on backing vocals, Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes, Mystic Valley Band) and Alex McDougal from the Black Crowes on organ – for an album more intimate and organic than the grandiose pop/rock sounds Gorbel explored on the Honorary Title’s 2007 LP, Scream and Light Up The Sky (Doghouse/Warner Bros.)
Gorbel will be previewing some new material during his upcoming shows; a limited edition four-song EP of new songs will also be available on the tour. Check out the band on tour at one of the dates listed below: FOR TICKETS or PRESS INQUIRIES, RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL- JarrodTHT@gmail.com

BLEEDING THROUGH TO HIT THE ROAD WITH SATYRICON THIS FALL

Bleeding Through, a proud new addition to the Rise Records roster, will be hitting the road this Fall supporting Satyricon beginning September 25 in Baltimore, MD.
The Orange County sextet has sold over a quarter million records around the world over the course of its career. This is Love, This is Murderous (2003), The Truth (2006) and last year's uncompromising Declaration has propelled the hard-working, straight edge band from the hardcore underground scene to a worldwide stage. They've done Ozzfest (twice), MTV's Headbanger's Ball: The Tour, as well as Vans Warped Tour. You give them a stage and they’ll demolish it! They've toured with bands like Slayer, Marilyn Manson, HIM, AFI, Bullet For My Valentine, and Senses Fail across North America, Europe, Australia, South America and Southeast Asia.

Bleeding Through has been featured on the covers of Revolver, Outburn, Metal Edge, and Chord Magazine, and has racked up critical acclaim and support from countless other publications as well, including Billboard, Metal Hammer, and Kerrang!. Bleeding Through is cited as a major influence by many in today's scene while still remaining ferociously relevant.
Bleeding Through tentatively plans to record the follow up to Declaration in early 2010.
